nightscrawl
I happily and extensively modded both DAO and DA2 and am considering jumping into the DAI mod scene, but I do have some concerns and questions I hope some can address. I dislike that the only way to mod DAI is by cheesing the patch system since there seems to be a high potential for problems. However, I am willing to overlook that if there isn't a potential to break my saves. If I download the mod manager and load up some mods, will my saves break if a new patch is released? I don't have a problem with disabling mods when a patch is released, but I do want to make sure that I will still be able to actually play until the mod manager is updated. Thanks in advance. Thandal
There is TOTALLY the potential to break your saves. Any update by BioWare could make the mods you've installed (and therefore the games saved while using them) unplayable. The way (most of) the current mods work, they MUST be incorporated into the "patch" files. Hence the problems when new "official" patches are issued. Sometimes the fix is easy (back-out the mods, re-package them with the latest patch, reload your save.) Sometimes the mods are truly incompatible with the patch. In the latter case the only solution is to roll-back to the previous patch version. Since BioWare (actually EA/Origin) doesn't offer that capability, players have to maintain their own copy of the previous version of the game's patch files OUTSIDE the actual installation (e.g. a true file-level backup.) There's a reason these type of changes to the game are called "modifications", and why they aren't officially supported. Caveat Lusor!
