Built first computer in 9 years, totally new to Skyrim, looking for mods

I made a thread in the New section, but for quick background, I finished building my first computer of 9 years after graduating from grad school and getting a real job. Haven't PC gamed almost at all during that time. Essentially new to PC gaming, but have heard great things about Skyrim, and joined this community to find out more about this game, as well to customize my experience to a beautiful, immersive, and engaging one

There are a ton of mods out there, and I just have no idea where to start. Someone linked the 25 most endorsed mods, but it seemed more of a list, rather than a cohesive set of mods that are compatible with each other..

Is there generally an accepted primer of mods to install that are essential? NSFW mods okay and even encouraged.

Start here... you will not find a better guide nor a better place to start on the path to an awesome skyrim.

It's not all of the best, but it really makes for a terrific first experience.

No NSFW, but once you do the STEP, you'll have a lot of the knowledge you need to start looking for mods off the list - SFW & NSFW

I was virtually in the exact same situation a week or two ago.

I came across this guide which was exactally what i was after

http://www.skyrim-beautification-project.com

Ignoring alot of the optional mods which are mostly average looking armours and followers it will give you a desent base line and by the end of it you'll know fairly well what youre doing.

Ive got all in the guide plus another 50 additional various mods and my game runs fine so far with about 20 hours put in.

I also run a different ENB

Thanks for all the posters here.

I've started the STEP project install and currently halfway through. Possibly one of the longest "installations" I've ever done. So much to download, patch, configure, and tweak... I love it all though.

My three tips would be

1: http://skyrimgems.com/

There you have a very good inventory of mods and links to the nexus site for download.

2:

That is the link to Gopher on Youtube. In my POV, he is the master of modding and the best teacher you could look for. Watch his videos and i promise you, things will be so much more easy to understand.

3: Mod Organizer - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/1334/?

Instead of modding with Nexus mod manager, use the organizer. It is beyond awesome, and so much more secure since you mod a virtual version of your game.

Hope you get into it all bud and good luck =)
