lemonfan1
I don't believe this mod has been brought up on the forum, so I'll post my idea and hope for the best. :) As I play Fallout New Vegas, I tend to find eggs from different creatures. But rather than just sell these misc items, or just cook them, wouldn't it be more interesting to HATCH them? I wouldn't mind having a baby Gecko or even a Deathclaw following me around, protecting my character, maybe even granting a perk. This is just a rough idea of how I think it should go, but please feel free to add any creative ideas if this interests you; The quest could start out maybe as a bit of a scavenger hunt; gathering the items needed to create an incubator. I'm thinking it'd be fun to either happen across the blueprint or buy it from an NPC. Simple things for structure and warmth. A hotplate, a few fission batteries for power, some sensor modules to make sure it's not too cold or hot, etc etc. I'd like to make it a little difficult, but not overly difficult to gather all these things. After building the incubator, you'll get said item in the misc section of your inventory. You can right click it and drop it onto the ground and place it wherever you like. When activated, it'll give you a list of eggs in your inventory. You place one of these eggs (one per incubator naturally) in the incubator. Now we play the waiting game. It might take a few days for the incubator to successfully hatch the egg. I think chance should come into play for your success rate. Depending on your Luck, that's the percentage of the egg actually hatching. 10% for each point of Luck. When the critter successfully hatches, you'll receive either a message popup on the screen or an NPC will come running to you from whatever town your home is set, telling you about some strange noises coming from your room. When you head back, the egg is gone and puttering about is your new companion, only they're a little on the small side. Through time spent with them, they can change and grow in size. Since there are a couple of different regular Gecko types, like the Hunter and plain Gecko, there's a chance of getting either when hatching their egg. This can also be applied to any others, such as the Ant and so on. Now, I think when it comes to Deathclaws, there should be an automatic 50/50 chance of either getting a male or female. Depending on the gender, as they grow out of their baby stage, their 'young' stage and they're regular "Deathclaw" stage, you can end up with a Matriarch or an Alpha Male, each giving a unique perk. I don't think you should be able to have more than one of these at any given time as I don't think nature would allow too many species to co-exist peacefully. It's hard enough with a Deathclaw around. :P I can only work from memory of how many eggs there are, but here are some random perk ideas for whatever egg you hatch: Geckos Little Gecko Perk: How can anyone resist this cute little monster? You gain +1 to Charisma and +5 to Speech. Hunter Gecko Perk: This little critter is pretty good hunter and a survivor. You gain+1 to Agility and +5 to Survival. Golden Gecko Perk: Ah, the color of Gold has always been a lucky one. You gain +1 to Luck and +5 to Barter. Fire Gecko Perk: Such a deadly little pyro. But they seem to know how to really handle fire. You gain +5 to Energy Weapons and +10% Fire Resistance. Mantis Mantis Perk: Nature's Martial Artist, you learn a lot from watching them in action. You gain +1 to Agility and +5 to Unarmed and Melee. Giant Mantis Perk: Nature's Martial Artist, but bigger! You learn a lot from watching them in action. You gain +1 to Agility, +1 to Endurance and +5 to Unarmed and Melee. Cazadors Cazador Perk: Fast and deadly, the Cazador will always keep you on your feet. You gain +10% to your running speed and a 20% resistance to poison. Ants Worker Ant Perk: Strong and Proud is the Worker Ant. You gain +1 to Strength and +1 to Endurance. Your Weight Limit has also increased by 50. Soldier Ant: Defender of the colony! You gain +2 to Strength and +1 to Endurance. You also gain +2 to your Damage Threshold. Fire Ant variants: The same as above, only now including a +10% resistance to fire. I don't think I should include a Queen, given they are HUGE and would likely get stuck a LOT. Lakelurks Lakelurk Perk: Those Sonic Blasts have done something strange to your hearing. You gain +2 to Perception. Lakelurk King Perk: Those Sonic Blasts have done something strange to your hearing. And your royal minion has taught you how to hold your breath for long periods of time. You gain +2 to Perception and can hold your breath 10 times longer! Wow! Night Stalkers Night Stalker Perk: Dangerous at day and deadly at night, the Night Stalker is a true pet for a Ninja. You gain Tracking Vision (at night you can see clearly and all enemies show up like the Spotter Perk), gain +5 to Sneak and can move 5% faster. Deathclaws (Unlike the others, this one has a life cycle and can grow to a full Alpha or Matriarch if you allow it. If you hit Yes on the growing option, it'll grow to the next stage, if no, then they'll remain the same for good, until you release it and hatch another. You don't get this option until it has reached the regular Deathclaw Stage) Baby Deathclaw Perk: Aww, they're not so deadly once you get to know them. You gain +15 to your Weight Limit. Young Deathclaw Perk: They grow up so fast. And are quite the handful. You gain +1 to Strength and +20 to your Weight Limit, but you also get -1 to Agility because they're so temperamental. Deathclaw Perk: They've matured and are a force to be reckoned with. You gain +2 to Strength, +1 to Endurance and your Unarmed has increased +10. Your Weight Limit is increased +25. Sadly, you still get -1 to Agility because of their nature. Deathclaw Alpha Male: You've got the King of the Wasteland on your side. You're not to be messed with. You gain +3 to Strength, +2 to Endurance, your Unarmed has gone up +15. Your Weight Limit has now increased +50, your Survival has gone up +10 and your Speech has risen +10 and so has your barter! Holy Crap! You hardly even notice the -2 to Agility. Deathclaw Matriarch: You've got the Queen of the Wasteland on your side. You're not to be messed with. You gain +3 to Strength, +2 to Endurance, your Unarmed has gone up +15. Your Weight Limit has now increased +50, your survival has gone up +10 and if your Health drops below 25%, all of this is doubled! o_O You hardly notice the -2 to Agility. That's all just pretty much off the top of my head. I don't mind if perks are modified or not even included. I'd just like to be able to have a pet that you hatch on your own. What do you guys think? Thoughts or suggestions? Just post 'em here. I'd like to hear what others think. And I hope one of you will take interest and turn this into a real mod. :)
Lazrius
this is a great idea. i have already seen a similar mod http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/42006/? yet this one is very basic and does not seem to give any perks or other bonuses. if somebody could make this it would be amazing.
