davidlallen
Please make sure that you have spelled the name of the directory and the file correctly, so that the pathname in geck matches the pathname on your disk.

Machienzo
I was running into the same problem. I've found the problem and a decent solution. The model is missing collisions (Havok). This was found from checking the Fallout 3 Enclave Officer's Hat with the New Vegas same apparel. Opening them in NIFSkope showed that the FO3 one was a just a white object, while the NV one had Blue wires around it. The NV one obviously worked for the game, so I went on this big google hunt but found nothing. After a brief moment of sheer luck, I found out that you have to (with the FO3 Version) in NIFSkope, right click on the "NiTriStrips" section (usually the last branch) and choose "Havok" then "Create Convex Shape". If you want the best model, make it 0. Let it do it's work, and save it. It should work!
