"Realistic" reticle?

As I said, this isn't so much a request as it is wondering if it can be done.

 

I was thinking if the reticle textures could be edited to remove most of the black space and keep it limited to no more than a ring, with the rest of the space previously occupied by black instead being transparent like the actual reticle, but altered (through filters or whatever) in such a way that whatever you view through it looks blurry. This in order to simulate looking through an actual sight instead of gluing your eyeball to the scope (like your PC seems to do when zooming with a scoped weapon).
