Hi all,

Dabling with the CK to make and learn how to myself a house. Have opened a couple in the CK to see how others do it and get ideas. Then I opened this one house in the CK and it was a mass of red and white exclamation mark markers. No walls, floors, roof, had a few static things in there but not much.

My question is, is it an old way, new way, better way of doing it, why do it like this.

Thanks in advance

E.K

after loading a bunch of cells, the CK decides it doesn't want to load any more resources. Sometimes pressing F5 with the render window in focus will fix it; otherwise, you will have to shut it down and reopen the CK.

If you aren't careful, you may inadvertently make a change in position location of a cell while looking around inside it. This marks the cell as changed and will make your mod 'dirty.' Copy/paste or even duplicating a cell puts you in the same boat.

I recommend making a new cell, selecting the type of architecture you want for your house in the object window, and filtering furniture for 'noble' or 'common' or whatever to fill it up. You should also check out some of the modder's resources here on the nexus. There are some really great resources for cluttering up a home.

You said this was a mod house you opened up? The exclamation mark boxes are when meshes/textures are missing, or not where they're supposed to be. I don't believe the CK uses non-vanilla .bsa files (which is archived meshes/textures/sounds/etc). What's happening here is probably that the mod uses mostly custom meshes and textures that are not in vanilla Skyrim, so the CK is relying on files that are not in your data folder or the vanilla .bsa files.

To get that mod to show the proper objects and textures, you'll need to unarchive the files within the .bsa that came with the mod using a program like BSAopt and move the folders/files that come out of it to the /skyrim/data/ folder.
