I got KotN before yesterday and I started playing. At the moment of writing, I have not yet finished it. I will edit this post as I go and tell you my humble oppinion of it. And this is in the "Spoilers" for a reason... Don't be surprised if I mention some.

Made by me, 27th of November 2006, in Photoshop.

General impressions:

  • Thus far, poor voice acting - not loud enought ; I have to nearly mute my music and max my volume to hear something -

  • First impression of "go there, fetch that, get back there, fetch that too".

  • Unique quests, a la Morrowind -- Very rare questmarkers, you will need to take notes, they dont spoon feed you in KotN! --

  • Numerous riddles which spice the gameplay up

Pilgrimage of the Nine, given to you by this weird guy.

Pretty much the same principle as the mage's guild recommendations. Except that there isn't any actual "task" involved. Instead you just find the nine shrines one-by-one, click on them, receive a quest update, and voila!

The hard part in this is that they are not on your world map. You can not fast travel. Instead, you have a imprecise little scroll (map) giving you a hint as to it's whereabouts. Took me several hours to finally finish the pilgrimage. Oh, it cleans your sins off, and if you comit infamy, you will have to start over (rumor for now).

After you have prayed at the last shrine, the area lightens up intensively, and you hear a voice speak to you ( I couldnt manage the words, volume too poor, as mentioned above).

Then, something I found really special and different, you get transported in the skies, to chat to some shadow of a once great crusader that appears from time to time ( couldnt manage to capture it ). It's a nice dialogue (couldnt hear very well, once again ; Besth used cheap microphones), sort of like the one you have in your head with Mankar Caramon (what I mean is that you dont "engage" in a conversation ; no annoying hey you look at my face, you cant turn your head away).

That great crusader's spirit sends you to colect the first of the Crusader's relics, found in an underwater Ayleid ruin  .

The Helm

I have entered the ruin and finally found the helm (I though this ruin would never end).

It was a special dungeon, different from the others because it was part flooded, but still infested with wraiths, liches, skeletons and the zombies you find in normal ruins.

After I found the journal (and skeleton) of the once deceased leader of the Knights of the Nine, it indicated the location of the Priory of the Nine. I had never seen so much grass and so many flowers in one place! It really had the feel like a house no one had touched in over 300 years. It had a neat secret passage that was mentioned in the journal, leading to the Cuirass. Oh I also found this book.

The Cuirass

And then it happened. One of the best moments I had in Oblivion. The Knigths of the Nine appeared before me (I belive they where nine), and said that if I want the cuirass, I must prove myself worthy in battle. So I fougth them one-by-one, in an epic battle that lasted at least 30 minutes and broke my fine steel longsword, my greaves, boots, gloves and almost the cuirass.

Once it was done, I was invited to grab the cuirass(which looks alot better than I though, especially from behind) as my own. Knigths of the nine is the hardest faction to join in the game -- pilgrimage and epic battle must be completed --. Also found this pretty decoration.

Gauntlets

After a short chat with the now under my command and defeated ghosts, they have reveiled to me the location of the other relics -- except the greaves and the sword, wich where lost once one of the knigths left the order --. I decided I would embark on the quest to find the gloves, supposely still in Chorrol's chappel, after a unfortunate event that I will have to let you play the game to find out. I must add that they do not spoonfeed you in KotN. The quests are very much like in Morrowind, very rare questmarkers, and you need to take notes for the location of the relics, because the journal doesnt tell you. ( Accually it was my mistake, I missed the Journal Adds. Yes they do help you a bit :( )

And yes, there they where, and I had to do a sacrifice in order to lift them -- they where cursed by the respective god ; Kynareth I think --.

Mace

In Leyawiin's chappel, pray to the I-dont-remember-the-name and you shall receive a vision. If you walk with your faith, you will succed in retrieving the mace. The knight who told me about this died trying over and over again. Again, something very original wich I enjoyed alot. I also met this sanctified spirit ; along with others; who wander off in Leyawiin's chappel undercroft. Unfortunatly my faith was not strong enought and I kept falling down. I tried walking naked, jumping, pretty much everything. I got a quest message indicating me to continue on my quest, perhaps an answer will present itself later.

Thanks for doing this, I was wondering what it is like. I don't understand how they can release this with voices you can't hear. I mean, you TEST a mod before you release it right? Something like this should be very obvious.

Then, something I found really special and different, you get transported in the skies, to chat to some shadow of a once great crusader that appears from time to time ( couldnt manage to capture it ).

Really? Did you get teleported as when using a door or did you really 'float' upwards?

Yeah I know. It's pathetic, but so far KotN has had very original ideas (plot isn't super fun, but the way quests are handled, it's very different, it resembles Morrowind).

Unfortunatly it's like if you used a door. And your character behaves normally except that the HUD is disabled. Most of the ghosts you have to fight have okay voices though.

I will start editing an update as soon as I finish this post.

Is there anything that you know of that would stop you from getting "the sign" and not getting transported, i've visited all the correct shrines and have received the spell but never get the area lit up at the last shrine i've visited.
