Problems with Dungeon Lords

I am a long time gamer and recently started playing Dungeon Lords Collectors Edition once again. I ran into a problem. Whenever I get to Skuldoon and complete the quest that frees Valdane from the Naga temple, when I go back to Skuldoon to speak to Vartugg the gate simply will not open and I cannot speak to him. This is holding up the entire main quest line. I have retrieved all the relics etc before and I have spoken to all npcs. Does anyone have any idea what the solution to this is as it is extremely frustrating
