trapbuilder2
It says that my mod is outdated on the manager, but how do I actually update it? (I cannot give a specific example because It is half of my mod list)
RoguePony
Click on the version number of the outdated mod and download the new file of the mod. Might be a good idea to deactivate the current version first, unless you're downloading a specific "update" file rather than the main file.Check the outdated mods' descriptions on their upload pages, the methods differ depending on what the mod does. bben46
Just because there is a newer version that does not always mean you should automatically update it in your game. Please read the description to see what has been changed. If the change is something minor such as a bug fix in a quest mod you have already completed, It may not have any positive effect on your game. And if the change is big enough, may even break something by changing something you have already completed. Some changes specify that you must either start a new game or go back to an earlier save from before a specific event for them to take effect. Other changes are simple textures that can be implemented at any time, and most updates will not cause problems at all and may even add new content that you would like - so READ the description and be willing to accept that not every update is absolutely necessary.
SmugFrog
100 times over what bben46 said - some mods are finicky and require a certain painful process to update them (i.e. loading your game, performing certain actions, saving, disabling, loading, saving without the old mod, etc). I looked at updating the expanded followers mod and based on that write up for that thing decided to just leave it alone. You should always use the site's page description and change log to see what process and/or files you need to use.
