LysanderD
I know next to nothing about modding, however I do have a bit of experience in programming, so I realize that this idea may be impossible as a mod (due to the fact that a change might have to be made to the fundamental way the game operates, rather than simply in-game data). The idea is in creating a whole new system for saving/loading character save files. My roommate and I currently both play this game on the same system, so we have to be very careful to create 'long' saves at the end of the day, not relying on auto or quick saves to remain until we can play again (since they obviously won't, they'd be overwritten). That's all well and good, but the save list can get pretty long- since there's always the danger of one of us accidentally overwriting the other's most recent save on accident, we use a lot of saves to be sure we'd be okay even were that to occur. I also back up the save games folder daily for exactly this reason, but I thought to myself that there could be a better way of doing things. In a recently released game (I honestly don't remember which), in the load-game screen you had to choose the character to load games for in a drop-down list. Choosing the character name would switch over to that character's data and show the saves game list that could be loaded. Overwriting the save from another character was impossible, they simply wouldn't be in the list when saving, only the current character's saves would be listed. Is this type of functionality possible to implement into New Vegas? It seems like it 'could' be incredibly easy, depending on how the system is currently coded, but it could also be very difficult, or impossible as a traditional mod (meaning a 'patch' might be needed, and obviously that's just too much effort and could interfere with updates and other things, so I'm not looking for something like that). The aspect of this that might be the most annoying, and possibly something to leave to later versions, would be to manage the auto and quick saves to be character-independent as well, so that one of each may exist for each character (using multiple character save directories?). Just an idea, and something I'd love to see as a mod, so hopefully someone out there with modding experience takes an interest ^_^ ~Lysander
