snafu and the Fingers of the Mountain

Hi, first time poster, long time reader...

 

First of all, what a great game, its the first time ive played it and im really enjoying it so far. Well, i was until "Fingers of the Mountain". I managed to get the book, and after giving it to Teekeeus, then stealing it back to give to Earana to get the other reward (greedy me..), i forgot to get ask for the recomendation from Teekeeus first, so now he wont let me ask about the recomendation!! And being a quest item, i cant drop it...

 

So, what im asking is, is there a console command to finish an individual quest? I really want to get access to Arcane University!!

 

Any help is thankfully devoured.

UESP and UHS web sites (among others) both list all console cheats.

 

I would give it to Earana and steal it back again. It might work.

You might consider re-starting the game from an earlier gamesave, because...

(1) Give the book to Earana.

 

(2) Go talk to Teekeus. He'll be ticked-off at you and tell you to go get the book back.

 

(3) Wait 24 hours.

 

(4) Go talk to Earana. She'll give you a reward (a way to get the most powerful Destruction spell in the game, pretty much).

 

(5) Now, you'll need decent lockpicking skills. Sneak up to Earana's room at the inn. Break into her room and then pick the lock on the wooden chest that you'll find inside. Open it and steal the book that you gave to her.

 

(6) Lastly, head back to Teekeus and give him the book. He'll give you his recommendation and guess what..? You've just gotten BOTH rewards and Earana will be none the wiser. :D

 

 

Interesting side note: if you wait until level 25 or so to actually go and get the Fingers of the Mountain spell, it's powerful enough to kill most enemies in a single blast. The problem is, you'll need a VERY large magicka pool to even cast it in the first place.

Have looked at both the sites mentioned by Malchik (thanks) and unfortunatly in unsure if i found the right console command. Does setstage <questid> <stage> ring any bells for my problem?

I have the book, and Earana says "we have nothing more to say" and Teekeus tells me its strange that i ask about the book since its been stolen....neither wil take the book, nor can i drop it/give it away. The only quest marker i have for the mage guild reccomendations is Teekeus, and he has no option to discuss it!! Sigh, Frogger was never this hard back in the good ole days.

 

As for reloading a save game (thanks Tessera), i decided in frustration to do a few other quests thinking if i do that ill have time to think a bit more about it and maybe get a solution, so the only other saves i have are 3-4 quests later on (foolish me, right?).

 

So if someone could help me to recognise the right command (setstage <questid> <stage>? from http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Console) ill try that, i dont want to remove all the quests, of course

just get the last recommendation! Oh for a potion of Protection from User Idiocy....sigh.

When you talk to Teekeus and you see the dialogue options, are all of his options greyed-out..? Or, is one of the options still showing up in gold..? If any of the options are still in gold, yet he won't say anything further, then it's a faction issue.

 

Check your faction with Teekeus. It's possible that he's simply angry at you and won't discuss it further. If this turns out to be the case, then just raise faction with him... either by using a charm spell on him or by bribing him.

 

Just tossing out suggestions here.

I don't use the console so I can't help if the guides are unclear. However if you've only done 3/4 quests then I'd go back, do a few different quests and then go back to the ones you have already done.

 

Are you sure you haven't got the recommendation though? Doesn't he automatically give it to you when you give him the book?

 

Or wait and see if someone else can help.

Thanks again, im certain i dont have the recommendation (its the last one), so im having to guess that he doesnt give it to you upon delivery of the book.

 

I havent checked my faction with Teekeus..mayhap that could be it. Ill check now and try repost the result today.

There's a mod on TESSource called "Arcane University Access Cheat". Just search for it there, and the only Reccomendation quest you'll have to do is the Bruma Reccomendation.
