chaospearl
I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, or if the CS is just not able to handle what I want it to do... I'm trying to add items from one mod into a vendor chest from another mod. The mods in question are Kafei's Circlets Reforged and Better Cities. This is for my own personal use, mind you, not to ever be uploaded or shared as I don't have permissions. Basically, I just wanted to add some of the circlets from Kafei's to a shop in Skingrad added by Better Cities (the goldsmith). I opened the CS, and loaded up the mods in question: the Kafei's circlets mod as the active file (just an esp), and the Better Cities mod (an esp and a bsa). So far so good. I have no trouble finding the circlets in the armor section, finding the vendor chest for the goldsmith, and adding the circlets to the chest. Exactly what I wanted. Problem is, when I go to save my work, the CS crashes. Every single time. Am I doing something wrong here? The crash occurs regardless of which esp I try making the changes to. chakaru11
You can't just add the circlets to the chest, they are still part of the original mod and are not copied over this way. Hence the crash. You have to create real copies of the items to make it work that way. You can try the following: Usually, the mod you want to copy something INTO needs to be the active mod. The esp holding the sources is the inactive mod. Meaning that Better Cities will get the little "load as active mod" sign because that is the mod that we want to edit. And edits only stick if it is the active mod. The circlets mod on the other hand will be loaded as an inactive mod as it only provides the sources, but it is not the mod that we want to edit. Load both. Find the circlets in the clothes list. Open the ones you want to copy into the Better Cities mod with a double click and change the IDs. Just add a number or something, I usually use a "1a" that I add to the beginning of the ID, so that the items I created will end up at the top of the item list and are easy to find. After changing the ID the CS will ask you if you want to create a new form. Choose yes. Your new, copied circlets will appear at the top of the armor/clothes list. Do this to all the circlets you want to copy over. It might sound tiresome now, but it's done in a matter of minutes. After you have created copies of all the circlets you want, SAVE. Now check on your work by closing the CS and booting it up again. Load ONLY the Better cities mod and check if the circlets are all in the item window list. If the are, drop them into the chest and you are done. Edited January 22, 2011 by chakaru11
chaospearl
Excellent, thank you ever so much for the explanation. It worked beautifully. As for tiresome... heh, you're talking to somebody who went through and re-named over 200 vanilla items and close to 50 COBL items simply because I wanted the food to sound more appetizing. "tiresome" apparently isn't in my vocabulary when it comes to tweaking Oblivion to my personal exacting (cough-anal-cough) standards.
