Installing Oblivion

Ok well. I tested it on my mom's compupter and it actually began to install, so I guess the Cd isn't busted.

EDIT

I tried to install Oblivion today on my computer today.

Turned out that when I stuck the CD in the drive instantly opened again.

Also I tried to do a manual install of the CD and it asked me with what file I want to use to run the CD, this was really weird to me so I Explored the CD and found that the only file on the CD is the autorun file.

Everything else is gone...

what the hell is going on?

Are you trying to insert a DVD into a CD-ROM drive..?

Um well, I have a CD/DVD ROM drive.

It's in the drive I always put it in before, but now it's spitting it out.

EDIT

Ok here's what happens now when I try to open it now.

Okay, that picture actually revealed a couple of things.

For one thing, you're using a program called AnyDVD, a barely-legal shareware program that tries to hack into the copy protection found on most commercially available DVD disks (such as the Oblivion DVD). It also attempts to remove the region code information that a given disk might try to load into memory.

It's entirely possible that this copy protection hack is preventing your Oblivion DVD from starting properly. If not, then I can't think of any other solutions for you at this time.

Well I had that program since I've had Oblivion but I don't even think that progam works anymore.

So I'll uninstall it and see what happens then.

EDIT

I removed AnyDVD and I get the same results.

If this helps at all-

Here's what's inside the disk:

And here's what happens when I right click on it and click 'install'

I wish we could help ya, Nick... but there's obviously something else wrong with your computer that has nothing to do with Oblivion. The fact that you can get it to run on your Mom's machine, but not on yours, tells us that there may be something wrong with your Windows system, or your hardware. For whatever reason, your DVD drive isn't reading your Oblivion disk... that's why it won't install properly.

The fact that your DVD drive can still read some other DVD's doesn't necessarily mean anything. DVD disks come in different types and densities. For example, it's possible that your drive can still read single-layer DVD disks, but can no longer read double-layer types. Another possibility is a dirty drive, or a misaligned laser. Or, there might be something else wrong, somewhere. If I was in your shoes and it was one of my own computers, the next thing I'd try would be to swap in another DVD drive temporarily, to see if the existing one is bad or intermittent. That's easy for me to say, of course, since I build computers as a hobby and I have tons of spare drives and other parts lying around my shop. Most people don't.

Without being physically in front of your machine, it's hard for me to diagnose your problem. I wish I could be of more help to you, but without more specific information, I'd just be guessing all day without actually knowing what's wrong.
