PrincessBridget
I have a request for a Metal Gear Solid-like Stealth Camouflauge. I had the idea and was thinking of ways to not overpower it and stuff, so could someone make it in a way like that? There's a mod out called Chameleon Cloak ( http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=23788 ) that does it similar to what I'm looking for, but not quite. Basically I'd want it like in the MGS games where you're pretty much completely invisible while it's on, but that sounds overpowering right? Right. So, I was thinking add some quirks so it's not. I'm thinking make you 100% invisible, but once you attack or get detected or start combat, it punts you out (better ideas down in post #3) and into a lower "Chameleon" state like 50%? Like in MGS 3 where if they see you, your sneak rating goes from 100% to 99% for example. I've never played MGS 4 so maybe that would have an even better idea? BUT I would like to be able to see myself while invisible, preferably with the Chameleon shader; I don't know if that kills it already. Also I'd want a health or magicka drain or something to where I couldn't just use it all the time. The Ninja in MGS VR missions had health drained when using it, which I thought might work well. Maybe we could make some ideas before attempting to make it, because I kinda wanna know how the MGS 4 one worked, and I have a feeling I might think up more stuff. Soo any ideas? Deleted1848331User
Sooo, you want something like this maybe? When Sneaking: Chameleon 75%Drain Health 10 Points When in Combat/Detected Chameleon 25%Drain Health 5 Points
PrincessBridget
I think that's on the right-ish track, although now thinking about it, HP and MP change as you level so that would be a problem. Actually I'm really getting to thinking now after rewriting this post for the 3rd time as I think about it. The best I've come up in my head so far is: a timer. After the timer expires, you steadily get a bad effect... something that makes you not want to go that far. Oh wait! Here's some ideas: * Turning it on: 75% Chameleon and speed buff to compensate slow sneak... and maybe force sneak? Although Chameleon isn't too effective without sneaking. But it'd keep you from abusing the speed boost while traveling.* After 3 seconds: lose speed buff + play sound effect #1* After 6 seconds: start draining a highish percent of health and magicka? + sound effect #2* After 10 seconds: the stealth device becomes unstable and makes a loud noise, alerting nearby stuff (sound effect #3). Whether or not anything's around to hear it, you continue the health and magicka drain.* Getting into battle at any time while on: change chameleon from 75% to 1% (just to keep the visual effect on so you know to toggle it off) Those were just quick ideas trying to keep original gameplay balance high priority. This might even be more balanced than the original spells, muahaha. The sound effects would be there for feedback. And toggling it off and back on wouldn't reset the timers; you'd have to wait. Which brings me to an idea of the HUD status barsmod so you can see how much time you have left to use it... or not use it. I just want to mention I've been trying to figure out how this could be made in a nice way since...forever. I love Stealth Camouflage (enough to typo the topic's title!) from MGS, but it's even overpowering in that game. Even going through the craziness it requires to earn it, I still tended not to want to use it in MGS. So I'd like it "remade" in Oblivion in a better way. I guess I want it to integrate into a sneak/thief styled gameplay without it feeling obvious or cheating... which I guess is a kinda hard thing when we're talking about invisibility. But we'll see. Deleted1848331User
No timers, as neither I or GreatLucifer understands them. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36788 Tell me what you think.

Thank you both of you, but I will have to test tomorrow! I just started a new game right before and nodded off a lot in the tutorial dungeon because I'm wayy tired. So I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow.

PrincessBridget
Alright I've tested it. It works nice for what you made it into, but not exactly what I was looking for! I think I forgot to mention I wanted it on a hotkey so I can toggle it. So here's what I'm thinking: since you've already made the stealth suit idea, could you make a second thing that's actually a misc item that works similar, but toggles it on and off? Or better instead, if possible allow a OBSE hotkey like G, but only while you have the Stealth Camouflage device in your inventory. That way you won't get equip/unequip messages and spam. Oh, and I think the drain health in the spell effect is lowering max HP once instead of killing off your health. At least it is for me. I've messed with timer stuff in the past, mostly in Fallout 3 which is supposed to be about the same, so maybe I can figure out how to get those "penalties" going. Although I know I'm in for hours of frustration soon as I jump into the CS. Also: I am pretty handy in the sound department, so I suppose I'll make the sound effects that I would like to hear. I think they'll be important so you know how far into the timer you are. And plus I just like sound feedback. :D Edit: alright I went into the CS and started messing around and got the timer parts working. I'll update you once I get it to something decent. PrincessBridget
I've finished it mostly... just, I couldn't get it to go into Maro Rufus's inventory like you had it, so I made it add when you load the game, for now. It's a stealth camouflage device now. I based it off yours but mostly ended up redirecting everything to my scripts, so some things are still named suit etc, but it works. Installation: drag all contents into data folder Bugs:- Fatigue drain doesn't apply once like I meant it to, so if you have enough health to live past 10+ seconds of stealth, you fall in fatigue Fixed in v1-1 Info/tips: - It's best to bind the item to a hotkey (I recommend the Enhanced Hotkeys mod)- The item uses the torch slot and toggles on and off.- You can use it while not sneaking, but you only get high stealth effect when sneaking- It buffs speed and acrobatics while on- You only get a small moment before it becomes unstable and starts to shock you- If you let it go long enough to be shocked, it has to cooldown fully before you can use it again.- 6 new sound effects for wide variety of feedback. What do you think? Also I hope the scripts will help you guys understand timers! :D Edited January 25, 2011 by PrincessBridget
