FreedomForce29
Honestly, I don't have the slightest clue as to where I should start this Topic, so I chose Fallout 3 Mod Talk. If it needs to be moved, just tell me where to go~ Alright, so, as some of you people may know, Fallout 3 and New Vegas share a similar file structure (References not included :P) in their .BSA's. So, I've made a decision to try to merge the two. I already know that the files can't be uploaded, but this (If it succeeds, anyways) could be used as a sort of guide. Simply put, I want to travel from the West Coast to the East Coast. My plan is simple right now as I'm still thinking of other ways to import the models. So far, what I'm trying to do is dump all the contents of a BSA into a folder where I'll merge it with New Vegas' and create a merged .bsa that will replace The New Vegas ones. Since it's a fairly big thing to do with an archive, I've managed to merge the Textures, and, frankly, it's 1.76gb compressed at %40. If anyone can suggest a better way to do this, I would appreciate it if you told me in the comments. So, I'll add more to this once I've got the meshes merged and tested in-game. As of now, my only goal is to load up the WASTELAND, not any quests, not any weapons, not the NPC's, none of that. Just need the initial areas and the rest can be done easily (I hope). Additional notes: I've googled this idea, and it doesn't seem too popular of an idea. Then again, I only explored the first two pages on google. All I saw on those two pages was the same thing: "You can try it, but.. blah blah" Initially for kicks, I ran the Fallout3.esm in New Vegas and loaded up Megaton. I was fairly pleased, it was only missing the meshes and some textures. Most of the NPC's were there, and though voiceless, I could talk to them. I did so with Jericho, and I was surprised, he was still recruitable!EDIT~Well, New Vegas crashes instantly upon loading the .BSA's. I'll need to work on that.. Probably something to do with their stupendous size. I'm going to try NV in 3, now. I'd really prefer the other. But for testing purposes, I'll make it work! I have dedications :P Wait, this thing isn't old enough! oh well... I'm impatient~ Edited January 23, 2011 by FreedomForce29
Psycoace2
I see you've already tried loading the .ESM, and in theory, you could load the whole world if you combined the meshes & textures with that of New Vegas'. Ultimately, I would just merge the meshes & textures .BSAs (I believe you can do this in Timebomb's new FoMM) and see how much of the world is fully functional, and go from there. I'll reinstall Fo3 and try this throughout the week, and see how it goes for myself.
Riven1978
Well as much as i hope you succeed in doing it as i would love since it would be one step closer to combining ALL of the fallout's in one, without an immense team i don't think it can be accomplished (If your proposing the merging of the actual in game content). One mod that might help you guys out would be Yossarian22's GTS Found Here. Good luck and i will be keeping an eye on this one :)
FreedomForce29
@Riven1978: Thanks for the.. uh.. reassuring words! I had GTS a while back, but it didn't work very well with FWE and basically starved my character every time I traveled. But that's aside the point, I think I'll look into it's actual mechanics and see if there's anything I can use to help ..ease? this merging. So. Lotsa' problems I'm running into. LOTS. I've accidentally lobotomized my Fallout 3 Installation. I'll re-install it tomorrow. I have school in the morning, so yeah. I'll attempt anything I can since keeping FO3 running no longer matters. There also stands a chance that my New Vegas install is screwed up for testing this, as it will no longer read the Fallout3.esm anymore. A true pity indeed >.>
Riven1978
My apologies for any disencouragement :P was only meant as a boost in moral >.< (sometimes if you say something can't be done, it just makes someone work harder at it :D ) Trust me, if you get it to merge I will be the FIRST to join the Team that places ALL Fallouts in the F3/NV Universe :) . Yeah i had some issues with the GTS as well but the content inside the mod itself is a gold mine for this kind of project i would imagine, at least in worldspace data anyway. i remember seeing them having things as far away as Australia (far away for me :Þ , but that might have only made it to Theory status). As i said good luck in this and i will definatly be keeping my ever watchful eye out for any breakthroughs you maybe having. Oh one word of advice from experiance, If you have an external hard drive; once you get it reinstalled and working copy the Entire Fallout 3/NV folder over to it for safe keeping :) trust me i don't know how many times i had to reinstall for screwing something up when just playing around with everything to see what it would do. hehe I am one of those that with tear something apart just to see if i can figure out how it goes back together... and yes I always have "spare" parts >.<
satanslilhelper
You may want to have a look at this thread. I couldn't believe what I was seeing in the posted vid.
FreedomForce29
Well, by-god I can't believe I never found that.. thanks!! But, there is a slight issue...he's been banned, so getting stuff directly from him is an issue. The email he provided to everyone before hand was to some... Green Power Plant..? Whatever, some of the other users there know what they're doing and I'll go about interrogating them on the material.
miax
Yeah it is highly illegal to put Fo3 into FNV, so you can't ever publish a mod like that to Nexus or it will get quickly smacked. The idea is Great, but it's just not something we can do. To those who figured out how, neat, but it still can't be posted here or anywhere on Bethesda sites. Riven1978
you know that legal stuff really does put a dampner on things (<--Yes that's a joke), Nothing saying you couldn't create a "similar" world using the New Vegas Assets though. FreedomForce29
pfft. I never said an actual file, guys, just a guide. Remember! But... my computer just shitted up on me. More specifically: My Video Card. Great, isn't it? I now pronounce this idea dead until I get a new Vidya' card.. (Of course, it happens 13 days after the warranty ended..)
