SteelPipboy
Ive fixed the freezing issue but theres one issue that remains. I can only play the game in windowed mode otherwise on full screen it will randomly minimize mid game and I cant open it up. I was told it was a background program causing the problem but Im not sure which one. I own the game of the year version on steam. Some Background programs that I am running and might be part of the problem are xfire, steam, aim, malwarebytes, norton, networx. If anyone knows any background programs that interferes with FO3 or a fix please list it and I will search for it on my pc.
Volkaine
any antivirus (including norton) that has pop ups either telling you have a virus or there's a new update or whatever, or even windows update force any full-screen game to minimize so that it gets your attention. there are ways to turn notifications off in most of these types of programs. as for not being able to alt-tab (go back to fallout) back in, from personal experience if you don't have sufficient RAM (and if you are running a 32bit system and dont have the 3gb enabler) fallout wont come back up unless you were at the console or the escape menu prior to it minimizing. Volkaine
fallout still is temperamental if you minimize it when you are not at the console or esc menu, you should see about turning all programs with notifications off, i'm not sure if theres a global windows option or not and fallout is a 32 bit program only, so no matter what type of system you have it cannot use more than 1.5GB of ram. if you use a lot of the high rez texture packs or a lot of mods in general that take a chunk of RAM that is the issue. i only mentioned the 32 bit system thing because as far as i know there is only a 3gb fix for 32bit pc's

Volkaine
that is only part of the issue if you are at the RAM limit. try going to areas with a lot going on, such as megaton, rivet city, or the interior of the mill in the pit dlc, press "esc" then alt-tab out and check how much RAM fallout is using in the process list. if its somewhere around "1,507,XXX" then fallout is maxed out in its RAM. (also check the task manager if/when fallout actually minimizes and crashes on you) if its lower than that on more than one occasion then the ram isn't the issue, therefore neither is your system. if that's the case it is most likely notifications causing fallout to be a pain in a**. i use a lot of high rez packs and such because my build can handle it, however i run into the ram issue from time to time, but when it happens to me fallout just freezes and i have to end the process and restart. it may be a mod or an incompatibility with certain mods aswel. take note of anything you are doing that you also did when it crashed previously, same area, jumping, same weapon drawn, that sort of thing. if you don't notice anything that could be related then like i said, most likely its a notification thing. with my build i can run fallout with most of the ingame textures 400% higher resolution (due to tex packs) on max settings @ 60fps but even still if it minimizes for any reason when im not at the console or esc menu i have to restart.
