Whats your preferred way to play fallout New Vegas

One time I played a game where I decided to just shoot in the head using VATS anyone who swore. Well, that game didn't get far because soon there was too few people left left alive for it to be interesting anymore, but it was fun while it lasted. And you can get away with a LOT of bad stuff when you are wearing an NCR uniform though, its like a double-0 license.

Hey guys first post for me and I thought I would put it here! :D

I recently got into the whole Hardcore Mode in New Vegas just for the kicks, but now I can't play without it on.

Anyways here is what I do in Hardcore:

1. I pick up any type of food or water I can get my filthy irradiated hands on.

2. I gather all ammo, 'nuff said.

3. For this third thing I do is that I give myself the Jury-rigging perk as soon as I complete the quest in Primm. I know you may think this is

very, very bad but to think of it, on Hardcore mode you need to make the best out of everything possible, so that's why I give myself the perk.

Just to make sure I can make the half damaged leather armor count. So I always pickup armor that I can Jurry-rig into some of my other armor.

4. I sneak kill anytime I can.

5. I always keep to the roads. Goodspring's advice never put me in a bad rut.

This is what I always carry:

1. I always carry every piece of food and water I collect, regardless of how much I have on me, I can never take chances when I just come out of

a fight and have nothing to eat.

2. I always carry at least 100 rounds of every type of ammo. Except missiles and grenade launcher ammo.

3. I always use a backpack mod, that even makes Hardcore seem more realistic.

4. I generally carry around every type of gun, I do this because why carry 10mm ammo around if I don't have a 10mm firearm?

And that's about it. :D

So far I only tried normal mode. I find it more relaxing than having to constantly be aware of food, inventory, resting etc.

Matter of preference I guess.

I've done 4 play throughs so far and things I almost always do are:

1. Get companions, adds some livelihood to the Mojave. ED-E first in Primm and Cass later on.

Veronica will also be a permanent companion on my next play. ( I use the unlimited companion mod)

I try to get them good gear as soon as the caps allow it.

2. I always go for guns, don't like lasers/unarmed/melee. Perhaps it has something to do with the nice bullet time effects.

Usually a shotgun or lever action rifle, a sniper riffle and the AM.

Favorites are Riot shotgun, Brush gun, and the sniper rifle. I prefer it over Gobi since the last one can't be modded with a silencer afaik.

3. I often go for the strongback perk to get more inventory capacity. I always do the quest for Boone to get the beret reward.

I usually don't loot food/aid that gives rad poisoning. Very weird habit since I can always get rid of the rad.

4. I avoid the main quest chain as long as possible and so far I went with the NCR.

5. I try to avoid head shots cause it makes it often too easy and VATS for up close if companions are getting in the way.

I try to snipe as much as possible but go for legs, it's weird I know.

use only 1 custom set of clothes from the start (RCSS)

edit carry weight so i can carry infinite amount

use unlimited companion mod and get all companions but always just dump them at a location and tell them to wait, while i solo the game

use a single type of ammo until i run out then switch to another and never go back again

use fook editor to get armors and weapons to customise NPCs but never using them myself

The Mojave on 30 Survival a Day

(Or, "How I Saved The World With Gecko Steaks and Cactus Water")

I use the Novac motel room as my stash and begin new expeditions from there. I usually start each expedition with something like the following setup and gear:

Quick Slots

1=Best Scoped Rifle (tactical shots)

3=Best Pistol (distant mundane enemies, insects, rodents, etc.)

4=High DAM Rifle (all tough enemies)

5=Best Holdout Gun

6=Best 1-Hand Melee Weapon (nearby mundane enemies, insects, rodents, etc.)

7=variable equipment

8=variable equipment

Personal Stuff

- Guns Guns Guns (Eagle all gone and no more caribou)

- Best 1-Hand Melee Weapon

- 100 rounds of personal ammo for each gun (not including companion ammo)

- Skill enhancing clothes (speech, barter, etc...)

- All the weightless medicine items as i can beg, borrow, buy or steal

- 5 gecko steaks, 20 purified water, 20 Sunset Sarsaparilla

- 5 doctor bags

- 2 weapon repair kits

Companion Stuff

- Best armor and helmet (Drake gets 2nd best)

- Weapon(s) vary by companion and may change according to tactical situation

- Ammo is 150+ rounds per gun, up to 500 rounds if available

- Ranged companions get Cowboy Repeater/Plasma Rifle for everyday use

- Ranged companions get Brush Gun/Plasma Caster for the really good fights (when available)

- ED-E is my caddy, he carries my Anti-Materiel rifle when I'm not using it (when I get one)

Of course getting to Novac I bring what I find along the way.

Thats all I can think of at the moment.

i like playing in a lot of different ways, i just finished a playthrough where i was just going around and killing anything i see it actually worked out pretty good and it was decently fun, now i just started a new acount and i decided the i was going to be good this time. I am pretty sure i have done a total of 6 playthroughs for fallout new vegas.

I really enjoy collecting anything i can and trying to get any good weaponds or armor or anything that looks like it is important i like trying to get as many quests done as possible. I also love a lot of the perks, some that i think are cool are: jury rigging, life giver, explorer, grim reapers sprint and quite a lot more that i just dont want to list lol. i carry as many weaponds with me as i can and if a weapond that i have i want it to be at full condition so i can kill at maximum damage.

but i carry some extra just in case

also a 12.7mm pistol silenced is good for killing friendlys and getting supplys i always get encumbered so i hae homes all over the place with stashes

i use rex and boone as companions

I play as a merciful thug. If any non quest related nps's have valuable items, I steal it from them or sneak kill them. My way of getting loads of caps is to kill the Van Graff's and sell all their weapons and armor. That and killing the Gun Runner Guards for the combat armor. (worth around 3000 I think) Edited by IhateNCR

Mine has varied over time. Started out at the vanilla, gradually morphing into totally excessive (due the extra weight carrying perks built into the AWOP Mod). Recently I've gotten back into a more realistic mode of play. 300ish rds for 5.56 class assault rifles or 150 rds for 7.62 class battle rifles, 45ish rds for pistols, and a honkin' big knife (katana), and 3 frags & 3 incindiaries or plasma nades (bit excessive........thinking about just carrying 3 total). I always wear the same clothing, and play on hard core.

As I progress I usually set up weapon and clothing caches, so I can go to a nearby cache to restock ammo, and/or swap out weapons and clothing set ups for specific missions or tasks.

I try to run missions or tasks as I would in real life, stay on task, avoid combat not germain to the mission, but defend myself if attacked..............I do play specific "explorer" type missions with no set goal; other than the ususal mayhem on mutants and NPCs I consider non essential ;D

I've gotten into a bit of a rut lately where I keep falling into the same playstyle only to restart the game halfway through because I'm getting bored. I think the problem is that I tend to try to get all the sidequests in ASAP and by the time I reach the Strip not only am I getting burned out but I don't even have to worry about the credit check to get in, which makes it too easy (note to self: stop taking the Cap Finder perk).

I keep wanting to try a melee or unarmed specialist for the challenge but the game feels so slanted against that playstyle that it doesn't stay fun for very long. Especially since some of the most fun melee weapons like the Shishkebab are so rare.
