Bug after finishing main quest:

Ok, here's what happened....

After defeating Mehrunes Dagon in the Temple of the One, I left it and noticied a lot of graphical lag upon entering the Temple section of Imperial City.

I turned around, and lo and behold, the temple was floating.

I walked around the temple area, and found the exit to the waterfront looking like this:

NPCs that were trying to go to the waterfront were having a hard time doing it. Ones coming from the waterfront had a little tumble.

It was only the exit from the Temple district to the Waterfront that had that little boundary gap. I went down into it and found myself outside of the walls of the Temple area, as if I had used the no clipping code.

This never happened the first time I beat the game with a different character. The one thing that might have caused these problems was the fact I installed the Official patch during the run through with this particular character. I installed it back when Martin had sent me to Miscarcand (one of the floor plate buttons wouldn't work, the official patch said it would fix it, it did seemingly).

So, any ideas to the cause? I'm stumped, and it's very laggy around the temple district now because of this.

After patching the game, it's usually best to simply start a brand new character from scratch. I've seen a lot of freaky anomalies happen if you don't. I'm not sure if that's what caused this particular problem, but I do know that patching the game and then trying to load a pre-existing game save file can sometimes lead to problems.

Also, if you use any mods for Oblivion, they also need to be re-installed after you patch the game, mainly because the official patch attempts to remove any changes made to the default version of the game. Some mods don't have a problem with this, but plenty of others do. Lastly, your Oblivion.ini file may have been changed as well, so if you had tweaked it before patching the game, it may no longer be setup the way it used to be and you'll need to change it back.

@eman77

just finished the main quest for the first time and see exactly the same problem. I have not patched the game at all. I am running a few mods. When I run through the final sequence without the mods then there is no problem. Ho hum ... now to find out what mods are causing the problem.

edit: everything's fine if I disable the Illumination Within (with window shutters) mod. I run other mods such as LOD, Valeria, Corwyn's body, Grass Without Tiling, No More Annoying Messages, Horse Whistle, Chase Camera, Color Map, Get Wet, Summon Companion, Female Armor Pack, P1D Key Chain with no problem. (OBMM is such a cool tool for managing mods ... thanks to the authors.)
