Problems Downloading Mods.

So, I am not entirely sure if this is the appropriate place to post this, but I didn't see a section for general website tech support, and since I only play Oblivion of the games listed, I figured I'd post here. (So please, if I've missed the appropriate place for this question, would you mind redirecting me?)

Basically, my problem is that I can only download one of the two major types of file uploads that are found in the "Uploaded Files" section of the Oblivion forums.

The two types of uploads I have seen are:

1) So-and-So's Kickass Mod. *

"it kicks ass and takes names"

2) So-and-So's Not-Nearly-As-Kickass Mod.

"OMGmike, you can't download this."

You can view this file here. **

* link is embedded in the title.

** link is embedded in the word "here" on that bottom disclaimer.

Every time I attempt to download a file that is listed as in the case of number 2, I get redirected to a page that says either: "No file exists," or, "Page load error."

Is there a problem with my browser, or my account type (I'm new to this site, and I'm just a plain old basic member, haven't donated, yet, but the community seems great and I love Bethesda's games, so I am truly planning on it), or a pop-up blocker? Are these files no longer being hosted?

From what I've seen of this site, you guys are all great, so I'm hoping you forgive me if this is a stupid question, but any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm not so great with computers, and I'm entirely new to this level of modding; the closest I've come to this was changing the color of fonts in the UI of BF2 when that game was still current, haha.

Anyway, thanks in advance,

Mike.

What you're experiencing is nothing more than bad links. There are plenty of mods that still link to the old TESSource site, which no longer exists, and is now TESNexus. An example of this is Streamline. The word HERE which should take you to the mods' page is a dead link. What you'll need to do in this case is go to the page using the File ID #. This is located at the end of the link. Example below.

http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=10400 <-- This is the link from the word "here" from the Streamline topic, which is an invalid link. To get to the proper page you need to use the ID#, which you can see at the end of the link. id=10400. Just go to any mod page, and plug those digits in at the end in place of the current ones. An example below.

Enhanced Hotkeys link is: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34735 which is a valid link. Now replace the ID 34735 with Streamline's, 10400, and hit enter. Viola! You're now at the proper Streamline page.

Yes this is slightly annoying and would be nice if it were changed. However there are probably thousands of these dead links out there and it would be a rather tedious task to fix them all if it had to be done by hand. Now if this could be scripted server side it should be, and I'd imagine it would have been done if it were possible to automate it.

Hopefully that clears this up and will help you get to the files you're interested in.
