Wordsmith
I'm slowly improving the way Oblivion looks and acts with assorted mods, and my latest bugbear is this... RAIN! I'm British, and we are experts on rain - we get a lot of it. In rain, real people don't walk at the same speed as when dry - they speed up and scurry - they run - or they hug the sides of streets. Real rain makes things wet - the streets, the people, the buildings. Real rain leaves raindrops on bushes afterwards - they glint in the sunlight. And finally - rain does NOT fall through arches onto your head. So. how many of these things are feasible mods? Walk-to-run change for npc's when it rains? Texture reflectivity and darkening when wet? Drying out reverses this gradually? I know there was a Morrowind mod that stopped rain falling through static objects - surely it must also be possible in Oblivion. Any suggestions? Megatarius
I feel you. I grew up in mountainous forests like the ones that surround Bruma and Chorrol. The most beautiful and inspiring countryside. I was very excited to see them rendered so beautifully in the game. And then nightfell. Standing in the forest when it snows is the most silent and peaceful experience. Not on Nirn. They have some magical species of cricket that lives in freezing cold temperature that kills other insects. But there they are, chirping and singing away, all night, on the icy summits of the Valus mountains, where no bush or scrub can grow. :wallbash: As for what you're asking about, some of it is. I've seen a mod that makes monsters spawn at night and in rain, so the scripting capabilities are there. Perhaps you could create a Get to Shelter AI package that makes NPC's run to any interior cell when it rains, but that would disrupt their carefully planned daily routines. It's obvious what was more important to Bethesda. Me? I'd use that mod in a heartbeat. Haven't found one yet. As for shiny surfaces, try OBGE. I don't know if it will help you with that, but it makes a number of improvements on the graphics engine. I don't use it. I get enough lagging as it is. For stopping rain under arches and things, welcome to the short list of (as far as I know) unmoddable aspects of the game. 50 Block Skill and your Shield is all of a sudden made of unobtainium that can't break? Not being able to attack in vanity mode, while being able to do everything else, including cast destructive spells. :wallbash: Rain going through roofs. You might try this:http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=29508 But it's apparently buggy and doesn't work for everyone. I haven't tried it.
chakaru11
Well sadly there are certain restrictions to the Oblivion engine so that a lot of weather immersion was lost. I remember playing Morrowind for the first time and how the characters protected their face with their hand when facing the wind. If you want the NPCs and your character reacting to the rain, I'd advice you to try out "Personal Idles 4", it's here on the nexus. If you activate the idles for all NPCs, they shudder when it's cold and hug themselves when it rains to keep warm. It's not much, but it's a start, right? Wordsmith
I've tried Reneer's Rain Mod - sadly I get the CTD problem which some others have had. I'll keep an eye on it, as it may work one day. Tried "Get Wet" but that basically makes me glow silvery, not go darker and drowned-rat like - so that's out again. Will try the idles at the weekend I think. Any more bright ideas? Wordy Edited January 24, 2011 by Wordsmith
