demidekidasu
Hi all, When I first got the game, I set about making the usual changes to the INI file(s). I changed various settings related to multithreading, view distance etc., blah blah blah. Everything worked fine and dandy. I am now running the game with various graphics mods, and experiencing framerate drops here and there due to the higher demands on my system, so I would like to revert some of the changes to view distance settings back to their default values. The problem is that I cannot seem to revert "ugridstoload" from 7 back to its default value of 5, because the game crashes when I try to load my saves. It is deffinitely not a crash being caused by anything else, as this only happens when the "ugridstoload" is set to 5. Now, I am absolutely confused by this... why would it crash when I revert to default values? I have been trying to change it back for a while now, but it just wont let me! I have also tried changing the preload buffer and the interior and exterior cell buffers but it makes no difference. Im not experiencing any problems/errors/crashes other than the current performance. Anyone else experienced this? Got any advice? I am farmiliar with tweaking INI files in the Bethesda games so shoot away! Thanks guys.

Hi All you need to do is, 1: Get "back" to uGridsToLoad=7 change it in the 3 ini files Fallout_default.ini, Fallout.ini, FalloutPrefs.ini just Ctrl+F search "uGridsToLoad="2: Start the game and load the last save.3: Go back to Desktop Ctrl+Alt+Delete taskmanager.4: Change the uGridsToLoad= to default 5 value for all 3 ini's.5: Go back into game and press the command key ~ type "refini"6: Save the game and that save will load next time with default uGridsToLoad=5 value. I hope i gived you enough information, or else ask! Edited January 24, 2011 by CarstenDutch

Back in a sec, im gonna try... Thanks!

Just to be sure though, what is the console command that shows the current INI values?

srmacpherson
I discovered this (a little late having re-started my game) that if you save your game indoors, quit the game, make the changes, then reload the game with the indoor save-game, it will work. The problem is only when you are outdoors and the save is loading stuff that aren't in the visible cell range. It gets confused and crashes. I will try that if I get into the situation again. But lets hope Bethesda's new Skyrim engine will make stuff like this a thing of the past :)
CloneIX
This did not work for me.I loaded a savegame where my char was at the north of freeside and then made the INI changes (ugridstoload from 11 to 5), went back into the game, typed in the console refini and saved the game inside the Kings "home". When loaded the new game up with the new settings, my game still crashes... Any idea what I did wrong?
