Milata
Hi anyone, I recently read a tutorial on how to Retexture Models without replacing the original textures on the orginal weapon after attempting to follow all of those steps i try to load the model in the GECK and it crashes, Im hoping to find someone who i could perhaps add to Steam or MSN or Skype to give me some live support, but i think that's unlikely, or maybe provide me with a better method of retexturing, and if so try to make it Step by Step and clear, because im an idiot, thanks. :D
simplywayne90
Try looking in my "How To Become A Modder" Thread, it may be covered, we recently added a tutorial showing the process of making a custom weapon, and here on Nexus there are several tutorials for retexturing, they are for Fallout 3 but things didn't change much, so they are still relevent. However, if you want to retexture something without replacing the original you give it a different filename, and in the geck you make a new item I.D and apply it to THAt item. So if you want a golden 357 and already have the texture right, then you go into the G.E.C.K and make an item Called Gold Revolver or whatever and change its texture to the new one and that should be it, I've done one or two myself (will I altered other peoples to suit my tastes.) Milata
I've already looked at your thread, the tutorial on the subject i found there was the one i was following and had trouble, Could you maybe provide a step by step tutorial on that method you suggested? once again, because im an idiot

Just look one up and follow it through. I don't mean to sound unhelpful but asking someone to write you a bullet point guide on probably the most 'tutorialed' topic in fallout isn't great. Just went on Google and found this btw: A great new vegas based tutorial for retexturing armour Hope it helps. Milata
I know how retexture, i just don't know how to prevent the retexture from replacing the current textures, i wanna create an Assault Carbine with a different texture that doesn't replace the old one, and im having difficulty finding tuts for that
Riven1978
The simplest way i think would be to load your texture into the GECK under TEXT section and make a "Copy" of the gun in question and have it point at those textures instead.
Milata
Where's the text section? lol, also it's a weapon model, i got my textures to show up on the weapon, but when i used it, it used its original textures
MadNuttah
You can also open the nif file in nifskope and set the new textures. Create a new object in GECK (copy the original one) and set the path to the new nif file.
Riven1978
My apologies, I meant TEXT (throwback to before the GECK came out >.< it comes up as TEXT in TESSNIP) as in Texture set it is under the miscellaneous branch in the GECK.
