It's probably a Morrowind mod you downloaded by mistake. Of course without knowing the file in question I can't help.

Cant be that. I made the file myself with the Oblivion CS

Captain Obvious to the resque! :woot:

It's been corrupted...

Sorry, had to be said :D

The better question is, why and how? Unfortunately, the CS has done something similar to me as well, without me touching it, overnight... (believe it or not, but sometimes it DOES do things on it own, it seems...) I have yet to find a solution, so I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.

I could be wrong here though...

Ah well,

I must say though, I'm one of the few to not use third-party-programs. Perhaps someone around here could fix it with Wrye, or whatever (as I said, not my thing).

My CS removed about a weeks worth of generated regions, from one night to the other... I, unfortunately, had no backup, so just accepted my loss and walked away. This does not mean it's not possible to fix.

What I have found out though, is that when the size of the esp exceeds the grasp of your computer (in my case, about 7mb), it will say that it's not a valid file. This could be what's happening to you, though you would have to do a shitload of work (really, a lot) to get it up to that size....

Sorry I can't be of more help asides diagnostics, but perhaps someone here knows some application.

I wish you the best.

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm a novice modder, myself -- and I stress the term "novice". I started months ago and then quit playing Oblivion so I didn't touch the CS until just recently, and that just to figure out the base ID for an object I couldn't find in-game, even though I was standing right where it should be. Nevertheless, whenever I'm creating anything ... anything at all ... with a computer I save frequently. I even have my word processor set to save every three minutes. I've lost far too many things over the years, but it finally sank in. You can't have too many backups! Especially with a program as trouble-ridden as the CS it's important to save frequently. I do so after every major change, just like I do a manual save of the game when I'm playing at the beginning and end of every quest and at any important junctures in-between.

It would be nice, though, if you DO discover what the problem is, to report back here with your findings. It might help someone else with the same problem.
