Abramul
Well, I could tell you to "Use the Search", but since it doesn't actually work:clicky The answers you need are about halfway through the post. (Note to moderators: Shouldn't that topic be pinned?)
ShadowOfHate
that didnt work, so any other suggestions?
Abramul
The program typically used to viw/trivially modify .NIFs is NIFSkope. For .DDS, GIMP or Photoshop, in addition to the appropriate .DDS plugin for each, are used. As simply REMOVING the association appears to require modification of the registry, I'll explain how to set the association for each to the corresponding program. First, determine the path Gimp is installed at, and the path for NIFSkope.--Find a .DDS file.--Right-click on it, and select Properties.--Next to the Opens With entry, there is a Change... button. Click it.--If Gimp-x.x (whatever your current version is) is listed under Recommended Programs or Other Programs, select it. If not, click Browse, and navigate to the folder it is installed in, and select it. --Repeat the above, substituting .NIF for .DDS, and NIFSkope for Gimp/gimp-x.x
ShadowOfHate
When i tried changing the .DDS files to run with gimp it said "filename.dds is not a valid win32 application" any suggestions?
ShadowOfHate
well i've tried almost everything i can think of for this and i think i have only one option left.......total system restore so that the computer will forget that i changed the program to open files and will go back to the default, if this doesnt work i dont know what will
Abramul
There is another option. You can change, and perhaps remove, the path used when opening a file via the registry editor. I would wait for Tessera to describe how to do this (or tell you that it's not possible), instead of experimenting with it.
0AncientEnemy
Hi guys, i think i can help with that although i have to make some guesses for the correct button labels, 'cause i use a german version of Win XP... First open "My Computer" or any other folderThen on top go to "Extras" (last one before "Help")There should be an option called "Folder Options" (The last one)In that window you go to the third Tab, called "File Types" or something It will give you a list of all known file types with their extensions, you scroll down to the DDS entry.Lower hand should be a change button left to the "Open with..." entry.Click that, select your favorite program and you've done the trick. That should work without messing with the registry. :)
