ehdgk127
I'm trying to replace weathered 10mm pistol to glock made by Dread Wolf via fnvedit. Is there a tutorial how to replace vanilla gun model using fnvedit? Spending hours trying to figure it out myself, but end up not working All help will be appreciated! davidlallen
Is there a reason you cannot use geck to do this? Fnvedit is an excellent tool for certain things, but replacing models seems like it is much easier in geck. In geck, you simply use a file browser to replace the old model with a new one. And since weathered 10mm is from preorder package, I don't want to change its main components. I was thinking just simply replacing the weapon using esp. Is this possible with Geck? davidlallen
Yes. Geck is the primary tool that people use for this type of modding. Fnvedit is focused on certain types of editing which most people do not need at first. Get geck and the tutorials as described in the pinned faq of the next door "talk" forum. rickerhk
If you want to change a vanilla gun model, you will need to create a plugin to get started. It's easier and recommended to use the Geck for this. You can just browse to where the gun model is located. You can build an entire mod with just FNVEdit. It's not for the faint of heart (not for me, either). To change just a gun model - for example a 9mm pistol, load up FNVEdit, and select just FalloutNV.esm. Find the WeapNV9mmPistol record under the 'Weapons' group. Right-click on it and 'Copy as over-ride into'. Click the < new file > box and give it a name without the extension - My9mmPistolMod, for example. Click 'Yes' to add the master. Now drill down into My9mmPistolMod and highlight the WeapNV9mmpistol record. Make sure the right window is on the 'view' tab. You'll see the pistol in two columns - the original FalloutNV.esm and your mod on the right. You are going to change the model path in your mod. Find the field that says 'MODL'. Click once on the path to highlight it. In this case it is weapons\1handpistol\9mm.NIF. Hit F2. Type in the new path. For example weapons\MypistolPath\WayCool9mm.NIF. Just click once, away from that field and now it is in bold. Click X in the top right to exit and save your mod. Enable the mod in FOMM and you're done. Edit - also don't forget to change the 1st person static record also. And the models and 1st person statics for the weapon with mods.
