Something that bothers me

I played Crysis on my friend's PC at full settings--absolutely amazing graphics and gameplay. So when I heard Crysis 2 would be coming out on consoles as well as PC, I was overjoyed at getting the chance to play it. So when the multiplayer beta/demo whatever came out, I immediately downloaded it. I loved it. It plays smooth, theres a fine balance struck between running and gunning and sneaking around, and the guns are great. Curious to see what other people were thinking, I go online to see what other people are thinking about it.

Websites praise it.

Then I get to the comments on these sites and people were trashing it. Crysis 2, the sequel to one of the best games loved by a good majority of people everywhere. Saying such things as 'oh its just a combination of COD and Halo', 'oh the guns feel too floaty' (the f*** does that mean anyway?), 'oh crytek shouldve never went to consoles,' 'oh this is a lot like COD4 because of the killstreaks'. basically a bunch of whiner complainers (also saw quite a few shots at PC gamers calling them elitist and stuck up, which is just dumb).

I mean, on the one hand, you cant help but see the brilliance of the COD formula...its in many a MP shooter that comes out these day. at the same time, you can't knock the game for following a successful formula while putting its own twist on it: you have to balance out when to run, when to use power armor, when to cloak, etc. It adds a whole new strategic element to it. Yet a lot of gamers, like Youtube commenters, lack intelligence to differentiate and...not *censored*, I guess.

I guess my point is, does anyone else feel the same way as I do? Or am I in the wrong?

You're going to have to get used to it. With most games, for every player that praises it, there's three sitting around the corner nitpicking the little details.

Two games I recently had fights over because of this is both Mass Effect 2 and CoD Black Ops. Both games are excellent, the best in their respective series', yet people take the time to trash it because 'Black Ops doesn't have vehicles'. CoD was never about vehicles, if you want vehicles in a multiplayer FPS, go play Battlefield. And 'Mass Effect doesn't have different armors'. Oh, boohoo, so an excellent game doesn't have armor sets. That makes said excellent game pathetic, right?

People always nitpick and complain, because it's more fun complaining and they feel that people actually listen to them if they complain. It's all about the attention and the entitlement, because they feel that just because they're buying a game they have the right to tell developers how to develop their games. Word up, if you don't like what developers do with their game, don't buy it. You don't have to play a game just because it exists.

yeah, and half of them don`t even really share these opinions, they just hear/read it somewhere and take them as their own to participate in discussions.

I know some of those ppl myself (one of them is actually one of my best friends, but he has a problem with self-confidence), i guess they just try to be heard.

Think you could say that 10-15% of those guys are indeed disappointed by the game (well, parts of it, like: they should have added this and this like the mentioned vehicles, or they compare it to totaly different games) or they can`t take the changes the new game has when they loved the previous ones (as seen in Final Fantasy or the eternal debate Fallout 1&2/Tactics).

And the trend in games these days tends to mixed genres, so the risk is high that lot of gamers find elements of games they don´t like, especially among older gamers that are used to older game concepts.

30-50% are just trolling as they troll nearly anything and the rest are those Yes-mans that try to have a voice anywhere.

Well, at least i have the feeling in most cases...

In any case there will always be ppl that are nagging, you could develop the game of the century and still it wouldn´t meet all standards/tastes.

oh trust me, im used to the fact that it's there. im just not used to the fact that it even has to exist at all.

Personally, I loved Modern Warfare 2 when it came out and found the multiplayer addicting. Playing it for a straight year, though, I started to see all of the bulls*** associated with it (from personal experience). And I knew in Black Ops, it would be there in some form or another despite a different developer. So I didn't get the game.

However, that criticism you cited that someone said toward Mass Effect 2 IS unfounded, as there are small DLCs which give new armor (and a good portion of those are free!).

I don't know, I just feel like for some gamers, it's always more, more, more, or, as I found in a comment that went like this (its most likely a joke but it still applies to people as their real attitude): "This game is only to be played on PC. Of course your PC is garbage so you only have XBAWKZ to play it on. LOLZ." That's just pure ignorance and hatred really.

It's the last comment on this site, btw, so it cant be said that I didn't cite my source :P: http://www.examiner.com/xbox-360-in-national/crysis-2-multiplayer-demo-impressions

edit: @melphist, in a way, that's the impression I get too. Then again, what I really feel about that is the fact that as human beings, these people have nothing more to do than seek attention, but thats a whole different debate about human nature lol.

I mean, have either of you guys played the multiplayer demo on the 360?

nah, i didn´t, and to be honest i´m not much in pure egoshooters, i love Fallout and i REALLY love Mass Effect.

I also played COD Modern Warfare 2 and it´s a pretty good game but it´s not the kind of game i play for long (finished the story mode, played some Multiplayer-matches, but never touched it again since then and don´t have the desire to change that now), BUT it´s still a really good game.

And that´s what i meant, you can look into different different discussions about new games, you will almost always find comments from ppl that have a dislike to the game bcuz of it´s style and didn´t even PLAY the game, but they keep nagging about it (and don´t even bring proper reasons for their rating) and so other ppl take over these opinions (isn´t that somehow flaming too?).

Well, guess it can´t be helped, it may be annoying but it will be there always...

Crysis 2 is epic already! I really don't understand how you can judge a trailer!?! Gameplay is the key. If it is like Crysis it will be good even in the city! The first one was just perfect, now time to see if the big apple can handle it. A little of COD can't be too bad, as long as they keep the distinction.

would never judge a game by a preview trailer, i always get my Informations from various videogame magazines and after comparing the tests i decide if i buy it or not.

I´m not gonna buy Crysis 2 now (cuz it´s that kind of game i keep long, so i wait till the price goes down^^) but after all i know it´s pretty good (superpowers, aliens and BFGs, what could you ask more?^^), but i sure play it in 2-3 months or i lend it from a friend.

tbh i´m not interested in the multiplayerpart, but that´s more bcuz how multiplayer works: you always have those guys with nearly lunatic pride for their "skills", and if you get a kill at ther costs they hunt you down for the rest of the game or even the the next matches...

well, i´m not saying it´s always like this, but i saw it in MF2 and some other games, not only shooters, take MMORPGs for example, do you have any idea how many clan wars started of "pride"?

well, ok, i guess that´s a bit off topic here.

What really nagers me as well is when people make threads stating a game will suck even before it's released. This also happens because they think that if they say so, people would somehow magically think they're smart because they're seeing something the rest of us aren't.

As an example, a while back there was a thread here stating that Skyrim was going to be dumbed down, mostly based on the fact that Mysticism is being removed. I mean, WTH? There isn't even enough information on the game to come close to making an accurate statement like that, yet somebody takes it upon themselves to tell the rest of us a game which is only being released in 10 months is basically going to suck? At least wait for reviews to roll out before making such stupid statements, please. You don't need to spam up the forum with negativity just because you're a pesimist.

i completely agree. placing the setting in a big city will definitely up the ante in terms of gameplay and verticality. in addition to the supposed environmental storms that were mentioned awhile back, such as tidal waves, earthquakes, etc. though i'm mainly talking about people judging the Xbox 360-only multiplayer beta for Crysis 2, but I do see what you mean.

I can understand being put off by the retardedness of overly pride-filled people haha. I have had to put up with it on a few occasions, but thats why I tend to play with everyone muted or I'm in a party with friends. And it's not really off-topic seeing as though I think those kinds of gamers are just as bad as the ones who complain about a game sucking without being able to justify why they feel that way.

I saw the same thing on the Bethesda Forums, there was a topic on there saying 'What has you most disappointed'. granted there was a topic saying 'what has you most excited' but the disappointment thread had more replies than the excitement one. It's amazing really. Quite honestly, I myself felt that Mysticism was a rather useless skill. What I'm wondering is how they're going to weave into the lore of Mysticism not being used anymore. Did the practice or practitioners of Mysticism die out? Etc etc.

well, i´m courious bout that too^^

i can´t imagine they cut out the soul catch feature (and if they do it´s feed for those comments, but it happens anyway), but aside of the soulsnatching and enchanting mysticism was indeed not rly necessary.

Well, we´ll see when it´s out...DAMN, i´ll have to buy a new PC when Skyrim launches...
