Having trouble with disabling a reference...sounds silly i know

Ok heres the low down i have a misc item (reference) that has a linked reference to a static reference, the misc item has a script on it that begins onadd player all i do is set myref to getlinkedref and then myref.disable but the bloody thing is still there after ive picked up the misc item.....any ideas why?

 

edit - turns out graffiti nifs are weird in some way if you use one as a model for an activator it doesnt work correctly or as above set one as static you cant seem to interact with them via scripts or as an activator, chnaged nifs on them to something else and all was fine...mental.
