small problem when using OOO+DR5

Well I guess you have been using wyre bash for so long that you don't remember how intimidating the mere installation process can be. And this is just installation, this very nice patch you're talking about for example, I have no idea of how to make it, so more tutorials will be needed to learnt that as well.

[...]

I just want to touch on this, especially the bolded part. How complicated is running two EXE installers? I mean that sincerely, and in the nicest way possible. An EXE installer is so common and basic in the world of computer software it should be second nature to be able to use them. Copying and pasting files is also rather simpleton as well, when necessary. Wrye Bash installation involves nothing more than running two EXE installers. The default options are set where you can just click yes through everything and you'll be fine. Plus there are tons of information available at this point to literally hold your hand through the entire process of using the basic, and some advanced, features of Wrye Bash. The Wrye Bash Pictorial Guide for Newbies is an excellent source of information, and is highly recommended.

You know what? The fact that you are now here telling me that installing wyre bash is fairly straightforward is kind of funny. And do you know why? Because it was after reading a sort of guide written by you that I came to the conclusion that WB was intimidating. Let me quote what you wrote:

You need to install v287 then 290 as certain files needed by 290 are in previous archives.

Upon reinstalltion you need to ensure you properly install Wrye Bash and the Python Libraries. Proper procedure is as follows.

* Go to Control Panel and remove anything with the word Python in it.

* Next, uninstall Wrye Bash and delete the Mopy folder. If you used the installer version you should have an uninstaller as well.

* After you have removed everything related to Python and Wrye Bash it's time to reinstall, properly.

* Install WryePython03a from the Wrye Bash page here on TESNexus

* Install Wrye Bash 275 from the Self-Installer

* Update to Wrye Bash 287 by overwriting the Oblivion\Mopy folder.

* Finally, Update to Wrye Bash 290 by again overwriting the Mopy folder.

* Go to your Oblivion Mopy folder and create a shortcut for Wrye Bash Launcher.pyw and send to desktop.

* You're done! Double click the shortcut and Wrye Bash should launch and you're good to go.

And yes, I know that you can make a very reasonable objection now; I intentionally skipped one part of your tutorial. It was a remark explaining that a new, much-easier-to-install version of wyre bash would come up shortly. I do know that this version is there, but I have no information regarding how to install it. You said that 2 .exe's were needed. I take that one is the WB file itself. What about the other? Sure it must be some version of this python thing but, which one?

Now that I explained where my initial impression on WB comes from let me address one more point:

how will WB solve my problem?

As far as I read, this program is useful if you want to merge leveled lists (not the case), if you for example want to add hairs or eyes to default/custom races (again not the case and I use de CS to do that), if you perhaps want to import faces (idem plus I use face exchange lite), if you wish to manage screenshots (idem) and, to make the story short, a long etc. of other minor things. The case is that, after reading all of those, I still don't get why wyre bash would help me solve this small overlapping between DR5 and OOO1.33

If you could explain me what the program would accomplish by creating this patch the other user was mentioning I could perhaps be more convinced and for sure less confused.

Thank you,

Tiny Lampe.

I'm not saying Wrye Bash will or will not solve your problems. It's not a magic fix all program like many folks think. However it is the single most useful mod utility available to folks that mod Oblivion. It does much much more than you perceive. I could sit here for hours, maybe even days, stating, describing, and instructing folks on different features and functions of Wrye Bash. Yes, it does that much. Again though, it may not specifically solve your problem, but you are much better off using Wrye Bash, BAIN (Installation method), and a Bashed Patch to achieve overall stability, compatibility, and avoid major and minor conflicts that you may not even be aware of. Again, there is plenty of documentation out there stating exactly what Wrye Bash does and doesn't do, in detail. If you want to know more, research it. I recommend everyone that uses any significant amount of mods at least utilize the Bashed Patch. It's a rather simple procedure and greatly helps compatibility, which results in stability, amongst mods.

As a side note about what you quoted: Yes I wrote that and I think that's rather straightforward and basic. Not just in Oblivion modding but in overall usage of a computer. All that is said is three things:

1) Use the Control Panel to remove programs. Everyone has done this right?

2) Run a couple of EXE installers. Again, we've all done this.

3) Copy and Paste some files and/or folders. I know this is getting redundant, but again, we've all done this before.

And it's even simpler if you've never used Wrye Bash before, you can skip the part about removing files from previous installations. And if you use the most recent version v291, you should, it reduces the steps even further. You also ask the question(s) of which files are needed. I've provided that information, and a link to it, in the bit you quoted. Or a quick look at the Wrye Bash page here on TESNexus would provide this information. Look under main files, there are two EXE Installers, and one Archive. As previously mentioned, it involves running two EXE installers and you've got Wrye Bash installed. I think that's pretty simple, honestly. I'm not trying to argue or sound greater than thou, but really, EXEs are not hard to use, and are common in the world of computer software. Like before, I mean that in the most polite and sincere of ways.
