7thsealord
GOTY version running on Windows XP. Lots of mods (plus FOSE, FOMM, FO3E, G4WL Disabler, etc.), but no recent changes. I use only manual saves, having learned my lesson with the Autosave long ago. Was running fine when I saved last - note that I generally save 2-3 times in a row when winding up a game. This time around, whichever of those last three saves I started with, the game would run OK - until I tried to save, whereupon the game immediately crashed to Desktop. When I went in and manually checked the Game Save folder, there were what I assume to be partial files from those failed saves - all three were the same gamesavefile number ('910') but were smaller than preceding files (4.87 megs versus approx 6 megs). Also, they did not show up on the startup list for loading saved games. Deleted those three (presumably) bad files and a bunch of early saves as well, and tried agin. Recalled hearing that ingame suicide can solve certain save problems, so I tried that. Used a Fatboy (never one to hold back ;) ) and, when I came back, moved a short distance and tried to re-save. Worked that time, but when I fast-travelled someplace else and tried another save, CTD again. I thought there might have been an issue with the file number (which seems to happen occasionally), so I deleted those saves (907, 908 and 909), and went to the one before them (906). That one seemed OK - saved once, no problem. Fast-travel someplace else, try to save, and it was CTD AGAIN! Any advice / help would be greatly appreciated. Really don't know what to try now. I could do yet another delete and complete reinstall, on the off chance that solves this problem. But I did that a LOT early on, until certain problems were sorted out, and I would much much rather discover a simpler solution. Thank you. hollowman125
i had the same problem before well except it happened every 2 seconds :wallbash: but anyways you may want to disable a lot of your mods and try again, cause it could be a conflict or it could be because you have too many mods enabled at once
7thsealord
Thanks for the response. But, given that the number of mods has remained fairly constant all this time (900-odd saves, and may have actually slightly DEcreased in number and overall size), I question if that will yield any results. Any other ideas? Edited February 2, 2011 by 7thsealord
