FCoM problems

Recommended Posts

Hello, I recently downloaded FCoM by folloing the many instuctions and getting all the required fixes and compatibility patches,

But when I try to run Oblivion, it freezes on the 1st loading screen (just before the main menu). I checked Wyre Bash and BOSS to see if there were any mods conflicting but could not find any that were.

I think the problem might be with the load order or a conflicting mod (maybe one I downloaded recently that crashes the game or is unstable.)

If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated, my game has not been able to start for quite some time now, and I would love to be able to play some of these incredible mods again. :)

Here's my list of active mods according to Wyre Bash, sorry for the massive list and let me know if you need a different list.

Have you run through the BOSS log and fixed/checked any comments it had?

When I'm having issues with crashing, I usually do something like this:

1) Disable everything but FCOM mods, see if it runs.

2) If it does, it's an unrelated mod. If it doesn't you know it is something with FCOM.

I am no expert at fixing the load orders of others and the list is a little large for me to quickly see the problem; however, I believe the described behavior, crashing before main menu comes up, often indicates a missing master/.esm file for one of your loaded mods.

Alright, thanks for the tips. I will definitely try to turn off every mod exept for FCoM... Just need to find out which mods I need active to do that  . And yes, Leviathan1753, I have ran BOSS (Used the old version, then again with the new one) and have checked every comment. The only comments that have a !FCoM warning are the realswords ones, whioch I have turned off, as I think FCoM adds those anyways.

I'll try de-activating some other mods, then I can post a much smaller list.

(Ps. love your Hemingwey's capes mod! )

Alright, I cut down the mod list to all the big ones that are tied to my bashed patch and other mods.

Yeah...Hemingwey's Capes is now in version 3.0 release (and you appear to be using version 1.0). <grin>

I can't see anything that immediately strikes me as wrong...but you are using some plugins I have never tried.

If your game is still crashing before the opening screen...I still suspect a missing master (usually an .esm) file for one of the esp files you are trying to load. <shrug>

Wish I could be more helpful.

Hmm, could you possibly show me your load order so I can compare and try to deactivate any you're not using? It could be worth a try. This thing has me stuck, might be doing a full reinstall if I can't get this working soon. (Hopefully without so many mods!) Edited by Murtallica

Here's my suggestion:

Activate the first half your FCOM mods. (Just turn off your extra mods until you get FCOM working)

If it works, you know that first half is okay.

Activate half of the remaining mods and repeat.

If it crashes, you know something in that first half is wrong.

Deactivate half of them and try again.

Sooner or later you'll deactivate a single mod that is causing your game to crash. That's the badboy that's missing something.

---------------------------------------------------------

First check to see if you have all the .esm files though. I have:

Oblivion

Francesco's Leveled Creatures-Items Mod

Frans Optional new items addon

Oscuros

Mart's Monster

Fcom_convergence

This really is the way to go.

I would suggest you start by installing the unofficial patches then the official plugins or DLCs. Assuming you are then able to load the game with no crashes, install FCOM, but just the core FCOM mods. The best place to find installation information is the UFCOM thread on the Bethesda boards...HERE. It is important you install in the order indicated under 'quick start' in the UFCOM thread. If your game is able to load at that point, start adding other mods one or two at a time, run BOSS, activate the added mods and test. If you reach a point at which the game will not load, you will have found your problem.

(Sharing my load order - which is around 200 mods atm, including several personal mods not for public release - is unlikely to be truly helpful to you.)

I hope this helps.
