RedRocketTM
I was trying to recolor some textures at Photoshop CS2 (yeah I finally got it..) Everything would work perfect - if there wasn't Photoshop, opening DDS files six times in one single window. First a big one, and then it gets smaller... To explain it better:THIS is what Photoshop SHOULD show when opening my DDS: http://img104.imageshack.us/img104/2145/2wo3.jpg And this is what it DOES show: http://img104.imageshack.us/img104/4305/1at0.jpg So if I save the DDS file like that, it looks like the secound picture ingame too... But it should only be one damned flame! I've been trying to get this to work for three days now, and I cannot find a way to fix it... So if anybody knows why Photoshop is showing (and saving) six textures instead of only one, and how to avoid that, then PLEASE tell me...
Senus
Those extra "smaller" images are the mipmaps. These are generated when you create the DDS file and are used in game to texture a model at different distances. When you are close to a model the game uses the biggest image to get all the details, when you get further away and can't see the detail anyway then the game uses the smaller images to texture the model. I believe this is done to save on memory and CPU resources. When you open a DDS in photoshop you should get a dialogue box that says "this image contains mipmaps, do you wish to display them?" Choose "no" and it will only load the biggest or main image without all the smaller mipmaps. After you've edit the texture and your ready to save it make sure you check the "generate mipmaps" option in the DDS export dialogue screen. I hope this helps. RedRocketTM
Thanks a lot, this will help me with further texturing. I solved the problem for this one, by cuting the biggest mipmap to a single picture, and saving it with the "generate mipmaps" option. It worked too, although it was much more work to do.Anyways, thank you, I'll keep that in mind for future work. ^^
