WastelandAssassin
Hello everyone ive modded before but not as great as i wanted to. I hope to learn how to build mods and hope to learn a lot from this site. I hope that this will be a kind of launching pad for my future in game design. well, that's great and all, but i think you forgot one small part, and that is which game(s) you are hoping to modand also what type of mods you are trying to make (as each type may require different knowledge) however, there are some basic guidelines that i can point out (assuming that you want to mod one of the games here, which means Morrowind\Oblivion, Fallout3\New Vegas or Dragon Age)and this is which programs you need to learn as far as i know, all of these games (i'm not sure about Dragon Age though) can be modded through the usage of the same programs (aside from the game's creation kit, which is unique per game)for making new models, you will need a 3D modeling program like Blender, 3D Max or the suchfor making textures, you will need a program like Photoshop, GIMP, Paint.NET and suchand for setting your models with textures (or changing textures without replacing textures) you will also need NifSkope, with specific kits (for each conversion system, as different games may use different formats and methods) as for getting started, i would strongly recommend that you get the creation kit of the game that you wish to mod, and start by learning at least the basics of that program, and only then move on to either advanced learning of this program, or other programs you could easily find tutorials here on the Nexusjust go to the site of the game that you want to mod, and go to the Wiki page, and you will find many useful tutorials and links to what you'll need hope this helps
