New to Fallot Mod :D need directions

Hi everyone.

 

I just purchased fallout NV on steam due to the summer sales.

 

As a navigated skyrim player i used to tweak game appearance following a guide that suggested all more used graphic overhaul (Not interested in lore :smile: ).

 

It was called skyrim beautification project.

 

I wonder if there is any similar guide for Fallout NV.

 

And if not could you point me to most common mods expecially:

 

 

Main character HAIRS.

Main characters face and body (not interested in physic estentions.. something like CBBE for skirim would be enough)

NPC graphic overhauls to give them better hair and face.

HD textures

illumination

 

Stability/Patches and stuff.

 

Anything you might think i'd need. to start

 

Should be enough.

 

 

 

I don't need lore friendly stuff, but i'd really like popular mods if possible due to stability.

 

 

I really thank you for any help.

 

P.S. or if you think its easier i bought also F3... just i read that running F3 on win8 is difficult so i started with NV

 

P.S.S. do i need also something like SKSE?

Fallout 3 was notorious for running kind of poorly on Windows 7. I'm not sure about 8, though. While I'd recommend going with New Vegas on its own to start, eventually opting to try a Tale of Two Wastelands wouldn't be a bad idea, either; the mod ports Fallout 3 into New Vegas' modified engine, making it far more stable. Also, yes, you will need something called NVSE. There is also the Mod Configuration Menu that you'll likely have to pick up.

 

For mods that overhaul NPCs as a whole to look less like, well.. potatoes, you have either Fallout Character Overhaul or New Vegas Redesigned. FCO mostly just alters NPC faces while adding a few races for the player to use that have the new head meshes whereas New Vegas Redesigned also alters some environments to better fit the original vision Obsidian had of particular areas. NVR is a little less lore friendly since it does change some NPC's normal armor, but overall I prefer it to FCO. For main character hairs, there's things like Cazy, nouk's and so on; Lings Coiffure is also on New Vegas and a few race mods have patches that save you the trouble of opening the GECK to add them yourself. There's also a few eye texture mods such as Spiritual and Soulful Eyes, but its really a matter of preference so I won't make a specific recommendation.

 

For player overhauls, there's DK Female Face, nu's Women of the Wasteland and FCO - these are my personal favorites, but there are a lot more race mods such as Daughters of Aries. For males, FCO also works. Additionally, TFH's Rugged Race is pretty nice. For higher textures for the landscape, most people go for Poco Bueno or NMC's. I'd really recommend just looking at each and picking which you like more. Most of the textures in the Weapon Retexture Project are also pretty good. As for illumination, there are three big mods that kind of alter the "feel" of the outside environments. These are Fellout, Realistic Wasteland Lighting and Nevada Skies. You can only use one, and each have ENBs and other mods that are only compatible with them. Personally, I enjoy using RWL alongside Interior Lighting Overhaul. Nevada Skies has pretty dark nights and moods/themes you can toggle through. There's also Electro-City, which makes the Street Lights along the highways functional (among other lighting related things).

 

For patches, I'd recommend NVAC as a must have. For actual game fixes, Mission Mojave and YUP are both good, so pick one. There's also the Uncut Series which deals with restoring some broken or disabled content. As for other recommendations, I'd say to try CASM, Project Nevada, Weapon Animation Replacers and the More Perks/Traits mod. New Vegas - Enhanced Camera is also pretty fun, and while a bit OP, Signature Weapons/Armors is good, too.

To be honest (maybe its just me).

 

To make fallout look as pretty as most games now, you just need an ENB, the character models are decent, and the textures I never pay attention too.

Texture mods make a big difference for me. Maybe not as much for rocks or the road since you won't be looking at them much; but for lightpoles and walls, the default textures are really, really low-res. An ENB is basically just polishing a turd if you don't make the effort to get at least a few texture mods.

 

Vurt's WFO is also pretty good, though I tend to stick to the more lore-friendly variants.

Ty a lot i started writing a list of mods >.< i already need to install 40 ...and i have just few question before starting.

 

 

1) on skyrim when i install animations they require a skeleton... then i have to run an external program called FNIS to register animations.

In FNV i found a skeleton that seems has no real use, and no FNIS or similar to register animations... is it enough to install animations in Nexus MM and they work?

 

2) the part about characters seems quite complex..in skyrim i just installed stuff and they appeared in showracemenu.

 

Do i need GECKS in FNV or its enough to use mods like lings coifeur and the hairpacks will appear in vanilla character creation?

Any guide for that if needed?

 

3) any in game character creation menu like Enhanced character edit or racemenu of skyrim?

 

4) can i add as many hairpacks i want like skyrim or its best to use only one?

 

5) last can you suggest me the most used or standard ENB for fallout?

1) Skyrim runs on a modified version of Gamebyro called the Creation Engine. The animation works a lot differently in Skyrim, where you have to rebuild the animation library to add something. This is not necessary with Fallout. The compatibility skeleton is for mods such as BnB, but if another mod needs it, it will usually pop up as a recommended mod anyways. So yeah, nothing like FNIS is required. Just select the animation you want and drop it in to the data folder.

 

2) On the other hand, modifying races is a bit more complicated. Its really only bothersome if you intend to add custom hairs to custom races (and someone hasn't created a patch to do so already). As far as I'm aware, though, custom hair and eye mods should work fine with vanilla races. GECK is only necessary, like I said, if you want to use a custom race/head mesh; you'll have to open the race's (as well as the hairpack's) .esps in GECK and add the hair to the race. Not terribly complex, honestly; but a bit of a hassle for one unfamiliar with GECK.

 

3) The character creator in Fallout is more archaic than the one found in Skyrim. The best you'll find is things like Barber's Blade which allow you to edit your character's hair without use of console commands. I do believe there is a mod that lets you import the head of one character onto another. At least it existed for Fallout 3. Beyond that, however, you're pretty much stuck with what's offered by default.

 

4) Lings is basically a combination of a bunch of different hair packs. I don't think there's any downside to it, though I think hair styles are numbered - so some may overwrite each other. But I haven't really played with hair styles recently, so I can't say for sure. The pickings for Fallout hair mods is actually pretty slim, anyways, so it probably won't be a problem to install 2 or more different ones.

 

5) It really depends on whether you use RWL, Nevada Skies or Vanilla. Enhanced Shaders, Dynamo and Rudy are all very popular. Personally, I really like Viradia. If you're looking for something a bit minimalist that will make the game look polished, I'd definitely recommend that you try out Enhanced Shaders, first.
