GECK Problems

Well, I've been working on a vault for some time now, but now that I want to ad lights, they don't work... -_- I place them, but they just don't show up. I don't want to have to save, quit, load up New Vegas, do the command and head to the light just to se how it looks. Any help?

AND, I can't find a rusted vault gear door, that I could change to put my vaults' number on. All of the files seem to be hidden somehow.

When you have the editor window selected, hit 'm' to toggle view of all the markers. If you want to see light radius, hit 'l' (small L) . If you go to the top menu, 'View' they are there also. The thing that doesn't work for me is being able to view just the light markers with the 'i' - doesn't do anything. I have to have 'm' toggled on.

It isn't clear if you mean the light "markers" don't show up, or the light "effect" doesn't show up. To make the light "effect" show up when you move or place lights, hit F5 to re-render.

Regarding the gear door, find one in-game and note its location. Then go to the same location in geck and find the door. Double click to edit it, and you will see the model. In the dialog for the model, you will see a filename for the nif, like meshes/dungeons/something/something.nif. If you have not worked with "bsa" archive files, then you will need to get FOMM and unpack the mesh bsa file; you can find the details by searching for FOMM documentation. Once you have the nif, then you need the nifskope program to view it. This will let you see what texture files are used (textures/dungeons/something/something.dds). Then you need a "paint" type program to edit the dds.

I have done this to make custom door logos for my upcoming second mod. There are a lot of steps, so you may have some learning to do, but it is certainly possible.

I realize that, since I use Vault 11's door (I would like to use it at least), and when I double-click it, it'll show me the folder in which the textures are located. But once I go into that folder, I can't find anything. And another problem: I want to make my own key, but can't find the key pip-boy icon. It's just like the vault door textures: they're hidden.

There seems to be a lot of "stuff" in the render window which is blocking the view. As an experiment, without saving your result, try editing the vault and deleting bits one by one, until you can see more clearly. Perhaps this will let you find the name of the missing bit.

What are you talking about? I just need to find a texture, how would deleting stuff help? That's just a preview of the texture on a new model.

(edit) (rewrite) I guess you are asking what is the name of the texture of the column, which is not rusty in your screenshot. Have you brought up the vgeardoorr106.nif file in nifskope? Click on the column and its vertices will highlight, and also the associated line in the block list will highlight. Under the line in the block list, you will see a line, BSShaderTextureSet. In the block details window, you will see some filenames, and I guess textures\dungeons\vault\VTrim03.dds is the file you are looking for. Can you see how to do this in nifskope? The screenshot may make it more clear. Edited by davidlallen
