Mods Ahoy!

Just started the game, so it is time to check Nexus! I got all the DLC as part of Ultimate edition. So now I am looking for your recommendations, I like extra content mods, graphic overhauls, maybe a new UI, game rebalancing if that is needed. I am not keen on mega weapon type mods, secret homes which give me uber gear etc.

What do you recommend?

Welcome, Kilotron11;

The lists here are a little dated, but still full of excellent recommendations: "Good Mods - Opinions".

There are different approaches and preferences, and there are DA mods for all of them!

As you will read, many (most?) of us believe you'll enjoy DA more if you complete your first playthrough totally UNMODDED. It's is a great game right out-of-the-box. Once you've gone through it you'll have a much better idea of the kinds of theings you might like to change, and a much better appreciation for the things the mods are doing to enhance your ecxperience. :laugh: (The exception to this is for the few bug fix mods: "Qwinn's" and the "DA Rules Fixpack", for example. I use both!)

Beyond that, browse what's available in the "Files Section" using the "Categories" search function, and also see the link to the "Top 100", which gets you to:

- Most endorsed files in the last two weeks

- Most endorsed recently added files

- Most endorsed files of all-time

- Most endorsed files (non-adult)

- Most endorsed files (adult-only)

Endorsements aren't a perfect measure, but for the ones with the large sample sizes they are a good indicator of general quality.

And to get mods working for you, see the Nexus Wiki article: "Using DA Mods for Dummies".

Happy Gaming! :thumbsup:

I'm about 70% finished with my first play through and am going to go against the grain with advice. There are a few mods out there that I really think enhances the experience the first time around that you should consider. They have made the game much more enjoyable without spoiling anything.

Must have:

- DAO Modmanager. Helps to maintain a smooth mod install/uninstall process.

- CT SP module fixes. It cleans up some errors and glitches in the vanilla game... no brainer IMHO.

- Detailed tooltips. This is ESPECIALLY good for first-timers since it gives detailed info for all of the gear, skills and spells you hover your cursor over. Canilla DA:O is too vague at times.

- FIG UI mod. I play on a 60" 1080P HDTV and the default text is soooooooooooo small. This mod lets you pick the UI size that's right for you while keeping the rest of the game graphics as is.

Highly Recommended

JB Textures - I wanted the game to look as sharp as my system can handle for my first play through, and this mod helps get the job done.

- tal storage chest. Everyone knows DA should have a chest that you aren't forced to buy DLC to get. Ta daaa!

- Character respec add on. I don't use this to fudge my way through the game, but it was invaluable to allow me to get my set up right once I finally understood what everything was all about. A newbie shouldn't be penalized by mistakes because they don't yet know the system. I used it once for my main, once for a party member and I'm all good since I now have the type of build I first wanted but didn't construct properly.

Nice to have:

- Combat Tweaks. I'm sure vanilla DA:O plays well, but most endorsers agree that this mod makes some useless skills useful and smooths out some other game play mechanics in the background. I never looked at specifics, but the game plays well so far with the right amount of challenge.

- Advanced tactics. It takes awhile for newbies to get a hang of the tactic options. I installed this mod because of recommended versatility, and after 25 hours or so, I was solid enough in may manual tactical skills to allow the AI to handle the routine stuff. Having this mod installed from the start meant I could be far more detailed in my instructions than vanilla ever allowed.

~~~~~~~~~~~
That's what I recommend for newbies like I was. And none of them will spoil the story or gameplay for you at all. Have fun!
