What the... ?

Hello there,

:wallbash: I've finished my first playthrough of dragon age and the end was totaly botched?!?

I tried to support Anora for queen.. at the landthing she turned against me but in the end I could still decide to make her queen, which I did...

after speaking with Riordan (?) I finally got to speak with Alistair again (after Morrigan's offer) and there he claimed to be king?! I played on anyway and finally fought the dragon.

But in a sequence where I actually was fighting some other darkspawn the fight suddenly stops and Alistair tells me that he should be the one to slay the dragon (which I wasn't fighting at the time but he was!) it was his duty as king (which he was not) and I didn't even get a chance to decide anything; he just runs off and kills the damn thing and nothing else.. no sequence where I hold him or anything.. I go straight on to let myself be celebrated?!?!

very dissatisfying - did that happen to anyone here?

It's a bug that Alistair says that he is king (not meant to happen), you can get a mod to fix it. As for Alistair killing himself, it always happens (it's meant to) when you are in a romance with him. It's best if you leave him at the gates and take someone else with you.

Heyas Iridal :)

Yeah, like BKE says, its a screw up on the part of the developers of the game. And yeah, you can download a mod to make it so that he doesnt refer to himself as the king all the time towards the end. You can also download a mod which gives him a dialog option to either let him go ahead and kill the Arch Demon (AD) or to knock him out and let you do it yourself.

Or like BKE said, you can just choose to leave him behind to defend the city gates.

Or you can use the Console Command "addparty" to resurrect a certain Secret Companion to make the US and let you and Alistair ride off into the sunset (together, or otherwise, as you choose. :laugh: )

True that. I didnt really wanna get into that one. But yeah, if you take that option, make sure to leave Al at the gates to defend.

Can you tell me which mod I have to use?

Wait what? Are you patched to 1.04? The only time Alistair stays in my party past the landsmeet is if Loghain gets axed. If he isn't axed, he throws a hissy fit and runs away. Therefore, the only time Alistair will stay in my party long enough to defeat the darkspawn is if he is King.

Iridal- there used to be a mod called I shall be King/Queen that would let you marry anora or alistair regardless of your background. However, that mod was removed from the site a long time ago :(

You can use the Marry Alistair mod- http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=781

or you can use the metagame items mod to change your race/class temporarily http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13

However, with that one, trying to change my own class crashes my game, so I dont know if it'll work for you or not.

And yeah, like Juggle says, if you dont kill Logain at the landsmeet Al does leave the party. That is, if you dont just outright kill him.

But how do I get him to simply stay a grey warden with me? If I allow Morrigan her ritual we can both live through the fight, right? How can I make it work? Now Anora is queen and he will still think he is king?!

Is that bug special to elven females? Or why else change the race?

Nope - I played a female Elf (CE) and got through all right:

* got Alistair to marry Anora

* offed Loghain

* made myself Alistair's mistress

All good for me.

I've never played through to allow Anora queen (except that one time my end game severely bugged at the end, and I had Anora playing as though she was queen even though I'd made Alistair king, except she was not present in-image; her speech(es), game allowing for her to be present, but not showing her - it was wierd).
