A Sword Request

Recommended Posts

So, my sword request is this. I would like someone to make a longsword that looks similar to this, please. Also, if possible, please make the hilt a slightly darker shade. Like, almost as dark as the handle.

Thanks to anyone who can do this.

Ok, so I'm going to try and fight the urge to bump a topic. So from now on I won't bump a topic unless an exceeding amount of time has passed. (say......2 weeks?)

Adam, you're not allowed to bump a request thread. Regardless of how much time passes. Unless you add new information to the request, you have to let it ride. If the thread doesn't get any responses, then the thread will eventually fade away. Thats just how it is. Thats how everybody else has to do it. Thats how it's fair.

If you can add additional information, or update the request, that's cool. But you CAN'T BUMP.

I have saved the picture and will start working on this sword. It is more detailed then the last sword I did and will take some time sinse I am back to work after having a week off. However, If anyone see's this sword in the files already please let me know so I am not waisting my time doing something that is already done.

Well I guess it is to late to stop me if this sword has already been done from someone else. lol. Anyway I started it just after my last post. There is still a lot to do with it but here is where I am at now.

This sword looks sick. Very nice work here tatts! You've captured the shape very well and you've done a great job with the details. I'm just curious what your poly count is? Judging by the amount of detail in the hilt I'd say its pretty high. What is the acceptable poly count for a weapon in Oblivion? I'm new to modding myself and I'm simply curious.

Any reason you choose to put those fine details of the hilt in the geometry rather than a normal map? Again I'm just curious. Keep at this, its really looking great!

@BobKornog, Well actually this model right now is extremely low in poly's. (Verts = 2317 , Faces = 2342). I have read and studied for a few yrs about low poly modeling for gaming, poly count has always been one of the top topics as everybody always wanted to know about the count. The actual fact is, the processors, ram, Video cards of a computer has come a long way sinse 3d gaming came into play. For Oblivion, You could safely create a weapon model to be as high as 30,000 faces and even higher. The sword Frostmourne works great for me, When I loaded that model into blender to have a look at the polycount............. 55,000 faces. However myself I try to stay as low as possible regardless of today's tech. It's just good practice and habit to get into when creating 3d media.

As far as this sword and normal map, A normal is usually created from a high poly version of the same sword, most people just bake them. As you can see I am not that far yet. But it is coming along.

Yea I'm with ya on the studying I've spent almost 4 years studying game art & design but I've never created a mod before. Thats insane that the poly counts can be so high! When I was going through school 10k polys was high for a character let alone a weapon! I suppose thats back in PS2 days, our curriculum was so out dated at times. Anyway thanks for the heads up on the count that is way lower than I would have guessed. Thats the one thing that they never really detail is what are acceptable poly count limits for different objects.

What are you planning to sculpt with? You going to use the built in sculpting tools in Blender or you using mudbox or zbrush?

UPDATE, I did'nt realize this guy was banned. However I am still working on the sword and going to finish it. Did'nt have too much time yesturday but have spent a couple hrs on it today.

@Bobkornog, Unfortunately I do not have mudbox nor zbrush, I have tried using blenders scuplt a couple times but I did'nt so so well with it. I am just modelling it out by hand and what i'll probably do is just bake an AO then just work off that. I usally work between Gimp, and Texture maker to give me the effects I need.
