Tips on running FONV on a laptop w/ Amilo Graphics Booster

I am trying to run FO:NV on my Amilo Sa3650 with the Graphics Booster. This means I have an external GPU (ATI Radeon HD3870 512 MB) that uses either the internal laptop screen or an external screen,

Yes, it IS a low end system (it being a laptop and all) but I can run FO3 just fine if I mess around a little with some settings, but basically it works flawlessly with AA, AF and HDR enabled on "High"

Now, FONV detects my hardware and chooses "high" settings. I tend to lower them from that, to be on the safe side.

I've been able to play with the occasional CTD, but what bothers me is the random slowdowns. These occur regardless of settings, it doesn't matter if I play on 1280x800 or on 640x480 (yup, I've messed with the .ini's)

I've been doing a lot of reading in forums and it doesn't seem to be the NPC lag issue, I did try the .dll fix, didn't help.

I can't actually figure out why it's slowing down.

BUT: my external GPU doesn't seem to be carrying its load, the fans stay basically silent all the time I'm playing. All the drivers are up to date, and the game is patched.

Any ideas? Is there an .ini tweak I missed that gets you GPU off its ass?

I understand if this is maybe too specific to be answered - I'll go on looking on the net for possible solutions.
