Noggog
I started vectorizing Djangos' tattoos a while back, for myself:http://tesnexus.com/imageshare/images/862590-1292488139.jpg I messaged him in December to see if I could upload them when I was done, but he hasn't read my messages yet (or maybe hasn't even logged on since 2009?) I'm not really sure what to do, should I upload them? I didn't get his express permission, but I'm not really claiming his work. I'm giving him the credit, just uploading some quality textures for the community that he'd probably even appreciate himself. I just want to see if there's a policy, or if it's a big deal.. before I go getting myself banned. David Brasher
I sort of believe that people have no right to abandon mods. If a person is going to quit Oblivion and never come back to TES Nexus, then they either need to pull down all their mods or else change the documentation to set them free and make them public domain with attribution, no notification required. So if the documentation does not expressly forbid you to mod and distribute the work, and if you have made a good faith effort to contact the modder, and if the modder is listed in your documentation as the author, and the link to the original file is included, then I think you ought to be able to upload your work. Like you say, you are not planning to steal anybody's work. You just want to improve it and make it so more people can enjoy it more. You are probably doing what the modder would have done himself if he had had the time, skill, and enthusiasm.
Noggog
Yeah, I think the new permissions tab is a good start.. but a lot of these older mods don't have them set. They're all set to default, and therefore somewhat useless.
David Brasher
I think it would be interesting if TES Nexus made all the modders go back and set the permissions tabs on all their mods. Then the new feature actually would be useful. I myself am guilty, because I have only set the permissions tabs on my new mods and have a bunch of old mods that have not been changed. But on the other hand, all of those old mods clearly state in the readme files what the permissions status is. Perhaps the TES Nexus system is flawed in that the default the administrators set it to needs to say "Read the uploaded documentation to find out about permissions." rather than "Thou shalt not!" Because no one has actually evaluated the permissions status of mods before assigning this default to some of them which actually are public domain and clearly say so in the read-me files. wetblanket
If it's just a texture replacer you plan to upload, rather than a revamped version of Django's mod, then you ought to be fine. If the sample above is representative of the quality as a whole then your work is a definite improvement, especially the more faded, natural hue compared to Django's rather vivid textures, and should be of interest to users of that mod, myself included.
