Geralt steel and silver sword from the trailer

Recommended Posts

You can either rename and swap models, or only rename the model you want. In my case, swapping was more for testing purposes.

The game crashes you experienced was due to improper reimport (the force method), I bet. This is why you have to use Bundle Explorer to get it done properly.

I first got my hands on this programme from this mod: http://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/264/?

This dude managed to work around the "exact same file size" limitation of QuickBMS and removed all the level requirements from all Witcher Gear and Relic Items.

I haven't tried having the unenchanted sword to check for the glow but I doubt the runes would glow even then knowing the rune glow is somehow 'hardcoded' to sword models. I'll try it soon and let you know.

Thank you for the link to the tool! I'll try it out right away.

Edit: Tried the tool. It's hard to find the steel sword model that way too since I have to download the unpacked textures if I want to be able to see the sword. Any other suggestions?

If you manage to find the steel sword aswell, would you mind releasing it as a mod? I would for one truely appriciate it

Of course! I really need help in finding it though. Either using the tool recommended by makara5656 (huge texture download), or it's a trial and error nightmare by trying and swapping between models.

Well we know the model is in the game, you first see it at the very beginning right before geralt starts dreaming. Then again with the witch hunters in velen, so its definetly there

That is actually a taunting fact if I can't find the model in the end.

I've posted a thread in CDPR Forums hoping that someone can help me find it, preferably a CDPR guy.

I'll also start downloading the unpacked texture later tonight to see if I can utilise Makara5656's recommended tool.

Wish me luck!

Hey, folks! I did it with the silver sword using the technique posted by thril1!

It was really just an easy swapping and renaming of files, though I did have to use Bundle Explorer to reimport the files since the e3_silver_sword.w2ent is 2KB larger than the size of the sword model I swapped it with.

Here comes the goodness:

Sadly, if you enhance your sword with runes, with this model, it won't show the glow.

Now that we have made some progress, a question for you makara5656: when you'd extracted the game files, did you happen to find the model for the steel sword? I just have to find that to make the same thing as above happen to the steel sword.

great job, but i still don't know how to use quickbms.

can you explain some details about changing these files, thanks.

Right, here we go:

1. Download QuickBMS and extract the archive to [yourinstalldir]\content\content0\bundles.

2. Run QuickBMS.exe. It will then show 3 screens in sequence.

3. On the first screen choose witcher3.bms.

4. On the second screen choose r4items.bundle.

5. On the third screen create a new folder, name it My Mod, open, and then click Save.

6. Wait til the programme finished extracting.

7. Open My Mod and navigate to items\weapons\swords\silver swords and find e3_silver_sword.w2ent.

8. Copy the file and paste it in the folder that contains the model you want to replace (I used silver_sword_lvl4.w2ent in the same folder).

9. Delete silver_sword_lvl4.w2ent (or the model that you want to replace) and rename e3_silver_sword.w2ent you copied before into silver_sword_lvl4.w2ent (or the name of the model you want replaced).

10. Delete all other files in New folder EXCEPT THE ONES YOU JUST MODIFIED and KEEP THE FILE STRUCTURE INTACT!

11. Backup your r4items.bundle and put the backup in a DIFFERENT LOCATION.

12. Download this mod: http://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/264/? Choose Unrestricted Witcher Gear v2.0.1. Make sure you have Java installed on your computer.

13. Extract the mod to a temporary folder.

14. Open mod_files and delete everything EXCEPT mod_install_bundleExplorer AND bundle-explorer.jar.

15. Open mod_install_bundleExplorer and delete everything you find in it.

16. Open My Mod and copy everything into mod_install_bundleExplorer.

17. Go back to the folder where you can see the folder mod_files and mod_install_bundleExplorer.bat.

18. Copy those two into [yourinstalldir]\content\content0\bundles.

19. Right click on mod_install_bundleExplorer.bat and choose Edit. In the notepad screen, delete the line and replace with this: java -jar mod_files\bundle-explorer.jar r4items.bundle r4items.bundle.mod mod_files/mod_install_bundleExplorer -r

20. Save and exit.

21. Run mod_install_bundleExplorer.bat, wait til the process is finished.

22. Clean up the mess you just made  (optional).

23. In the game, use the console to spawn the sword you just replaced.

24. Go kill Eredin!

Damn, I'm so close...

Check this out:

Do you see what I see?

Still can't find the model... I've been doing this for hours...    :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash:

I'm very sure that that texture is the texture of the steel sword.

This sifting through bundle to bundle is driving me insane!

I found 4 most promising files in regards to our trailer steel sword.

One file is the model (w2mesh) and the rest are the textures (xbm).

They all have similar names starting with sword_01__steel.

There is no .w2ent.

So, in detail, they are:

1. sword_01__steel.w2mesh

2. sword_01__steel_d01.xbm (diffuse texture - the one I posted above)

3. sword_01__steel_n01.xbm (normal map)

4. sword_01__steel_a01.xbm (maybe env map, not sure)

I am 99% sure that they are the files that build our mysterious steel sword. The normal map shows a splitting resemblance to the reference pictures.

I tried replacing files with corresponding extension (in this case Barber Surgeon) to see if the change could be made without the .w2ent, to no avail.

In the game, the Barber Surgeon does appear in the inventory but not in Geralt's hands.

It's the invisible sword thing.

I'm not sure how the w2ent file actually works, but it seems that the .w2ent is a must have because it acts as a controller as to what model and textures should be used.

I think this is my end of the line.

I'd be very happy to help point those 4 files (how to easily find them) if someone could find a workaround for the .w2ent.

But until then, seems that our epic steel sword will have to stay in the hands of a lame witch hunter.
