mathclub3
Ok so I've played Oblivion on the Xbox 360, and I really want to play again so I was thinking about buying it for the PC, specifically a laptop. First of all I was wondering if I can play without a mouse? I'd pick one up if need be but I'd rather not if possible. Secondly is it worth paying the $25 for the Shivering Isles, NoN, and the other smaller DLC's, or should I pay $20 not getting the smaller DLC's? Thanks for the input. InAComaDial999
It is possible to use a 360 or similar controller with Oblivion, but it won't really work the same as on the 360. You really need a mouse to play the game properly on a PC. Most people who have played both on the 360 and on the PC, myself included, feel that the mouse + ASDW keys combination on the PC is quicker and more intuitive than playing with a controller on the 360. bben46
It's much easier to play with a mouse. Before you drop the cash on a copy of the game though, check to see if your laptop can play it. Oblivion is a resource hog and will bring many laptops down. Go here to see if your computer can run the gamehttp://www.systemreq...tslab.com/cyri/ You will find the various game we support Oblivion listed as 'The Elder Scrolls IV, OblivionFallout3 as Fallout3 PC Dragon Age listed as Dragon age Fallout New Vegas as Fallout: New VegasMorrowind is not listed, However if you can run Oblivion at all it should run well on your system. And before complaining about how much better games are with a controller, Microsoft dropped their plans to allow cross platform competition on live when their testing discovered that a mediocre PC player with Mouse & Keyboard beat even the best Xbox player with its controller nearly every time :tongue:Link: http://www.rahulsood.com/2010/07/console-gamers-get-killed-against-pc.html
vvk78
@bben46: Thanks for the link to CYRI, it is very useful and fairly accurate. @mathclub3: If your laptop/PC can play Oblivion, go ahead and buy it(or wait till year end to buy a new machine for Skyrim :teehee:). There is one major reason for playing games on PC......... MODS!All the PC games I have are extremely customizable and many of them are modded to superb levels.Replayability is very high with PC games, and if you get bored of a game, just give the game DVD to a friend or nephew. The Console vs. PC debate has been raging from years. As of now, PS3 is ruling the market, and XBOX 360 is literally crawling to keep pace (MS is losing their market fast). People are leaning towards casual gaming like the iconic iPad/iTouch, other touch tablets (Streak, Galaxy Tab) and Nintendo. Android is already the fastest growing operating systems, and there are lots of good casual games for it already.Gaming on portable devices is the hottest trend - Sony is launching the PSP Next Generation Portable (NGP) this year. But, it is sad to see that most game manufacturers are ignoring the PC, despite its popularity. Many of the latest games for PCs over the past few years, are just terrible (and delayed) ports from the consoles. World's largest number of players are on PC, then why are they being ignored? Is it because there is rampant piracy? Are the developers need not keep pace with the changing PC technology? Uncharted game proved that the PS3's hardware was not being completely exploited by earlier games. This shows that even on consoles, game devs are just playing it safe. Considering the advances in PC technology, the PC gaming industry looks promising, provided the major game manufacturers learn from their mistakes and give us what we demand. Until then, we keep playing Oblivion. Edited February 9, 2011 by vvk78
roquefort
Just to add, get the Game of the Year edition and the official DLCs will be included, along with updates. But definitely check if your laptop will run it.
