How to correctly mod my game?

Hi,

I'm Signur, new here but not new to the game. Have played fo1/2/3/nv.

I really like this game, and really enjoyed it when i modded it with all the very nice work that can be found here.

I had like hundred mod running, using FOMM but eventually the game went to crash so often that gaming was paintfull. I tried to get back to a no modded game but.. not the same !!

So i went to the web, looking for solution. I saw bribe of data on FNV EDIT; heard about merged patch but nowhere could i found how to do that.

So here is my question : How to mod correctly, how to check the game with fnv edit or how to merge the mods?

I have tried to find it here or on google but i couldnt find a solution.

Is there anyone that could help me ? :). A great soul that would explain me how to for the dumb or maybe point me on the right tutorial on the web?

PS : i'm good to follow instruction at least ^^

Thanks in advance

Kindly

making a merged patch, and also checking your mods on FNVEdit are both very easy (and are actually done basically together)

first of all, you need to download FNVEdit

then, you need to run the FNVEdit.exe

in the window that opens, you just need to select your load order (or even better, just set your load order before, and just click ok on the load order you get)

let it run, it will take some time, and it will write many many lines, so just let it work

when it stops writing new lines, look at the bottom of the page, at the last few lines

if they say finished, then your load order is fine, and you can proceed to making your merged patch (i'll cover that in a second)

if, however, there is a message about some sort of a problem, you need to solve it (like conflicting plugins, missing masters and such)

the instructions FNVEdit writes should be easy enough to follow

as for making a merged patch, you can do it after a successful run of FNVEdit.exe

just right click on one of the mods (it doesn't matter which), and choose Create Merged Patch

a new box will open, in which just write the name of your desired merged patch (i would recommend something like My New Vegas Merged Patch. or basically something that you'll recognize)

click ok, and let it run until it says that it's finished, and you are good to go

if you want to go even safer, make a copy of the FNVEdit.exe, rename it to FNVMasterUpdate.exe, place it in the same folder as the FNVEdit.exe (and the hardcoded file that comes with it), and run it

this will make your game more stable, and should prevent at least some of the problems that modding the game creates

hope this helps, and works for you

thanks i'll try, FNV Edit will say something wrong that i did not understood, i'll copy paste it down here (later today, i have to do my yearly formating of my computer)

/quote in the window that opens, you just need to select your load order (or even better, just set your load order before, and just click ok on the load order you get) /quote

Hmm.. Can you be more specific ? I mean, in FOMM i think just by displacing a mod up or down i change the load order (the bottom the last) correct? Then how do i set my load order before? In FOMM just by moving them? Also, the more important on the bottom, load after the other. As the last loaded overcome the others ?

well, when you open up FOMM, and look at the screen on the left, you see your load order

it's basically all the plugins that are marked (that have an X in their box), and that have a number written to their right (which is the plugin's location in the load order)

so sometimes, just dragging the plugin won't change the load order

you can easily see this through the numbers

i would recommend that you first decide exactly which plugins to use, then move all the other plugins into a different folder, just to make the load order look proper (it is quite a difference, especially if you have many unused plugins)

this should (hopefully) answer your question

i hope this will work for you

Signur, I'd recommend installing and using BOSS for NV which is a constantly updated one-click "auto mod sorter" that will automatically sort your load order in FOMM. It doesn't cover every mod out there, but most of the popular ones.

Also download and familiarize yourself with the FNVEdit Training Manual

Have fun
