Question: Is there an easy way to mod defaultgamecore.ini?

With the announcement of XCOM 2, I've gone back to the old XCOM: Enemy Within and - naturally - to the one mod I made for it myself. I say "mod," but it's really just a number of superficial tweaks to defaultgamecore.ini. To do this, I had to hex-edit the executable and only play in offline mode. It works for me just fine, sure, but I want to share my "mod" with a friend of mine who's also a fan... But outright refuses to do anything too technical to the game. I know there was once a mod called ToolBoks which allowed DGC injections, but I also believe it was discontinued. I apologise if this is a stupid question, but I've not messed with modding XCOM in so long I barely remember any of the context for anything.

So... Do we now have a better way to mod defaultgamecore.ini without having to hex-edit the executable?

You can enable ini loading manually (see wiki) or with PatcherGUI and edit DefaultGameCore.ini with the Notepad.

I've enabled ini loading manually as per the wiki, yes. It works for me, but my friend doesn't want to do that. I recall hearing something about the PatherGUI. If that's more easily doable, I'll try that. Going to investigate now, thank you.

*edit*

Ah! I see what was happening. I'd tried to use PatcherGUI but became confused by the UPKutils part of the package. The readme file is hella-complicated because it talks about modifying UPK files if I want to really dig into the game's source code. I don't have a head for that sort of thing - all I wanted was to alter the DGC. Never really noticed there's an option to disable hash checks (which EW already has by default), enable ini-loading (which I'd already done manually) and disable phoning home so the game can play with Steam online... And all of it in convenient one-button actions. Cool. That solves my problem. Thank you very much :)
