Modding games on Mac OSX using Wineskin

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I'm pretty new to Nexusmods. It looks REALLY favorable to me for a good, solid mod database.

I recently transferred many of my games from my old PC running Windows 7 to my macbook. The PC was getting old, slow, and my macbook, surprisingly, was faster. That being said, I now run most of my games through the Windows emulator, Wineskin. For example, I can perfectly run Skyrim, Fallout New Vegas, Tropico, most Total War games, etc. through Wineskin. There are a few games where I had to switch the emulator to Cider, but the focus of this thread, skyrim, is running Wineskin.

Let me tell you - The game and DLCs work perfectly on my mac for skyrim. However, I am running into difficulties adding mods to it. I really want to create a new castle and crown myself "High King of Skyrim" through some mods, but its not really working out. All files are native to Windows, but Wineskin "tricked" them into working on my mac. Due to the game being on my mac, I attempt to install my mods manually into the data. I then run the game, and turn them on at the start screen. My current load is as follows:

Unofficial Skyrim Patch

Dawnguard

Hearthfire

Dragonborn

I can check those on and off normally, and they work fine. However, adding a new mod, such as creating a new follower or house or castle or whatever, will not work. It does not ruin the game, for I can still play the game normally. However, the mods will just not appear ingame.

Now, here is my "solution" to my problem. I downloaded the Nexus Mod Manager, and I think I am going to try to put a wineskin bottle or cider bottle on it. Crossover does not work with the Nexus Mod Manager. (I use crossover for windows tools to mod Star Wars Empire at War... So i figured it might work here.)

Does anyone have any further ideas that could help me? Anyone think that wineskin or cider may solve my problem with the manager?

Thanks all!

I'll preface this: I have not toyed around with OS X since before Apple went Intel, and I have no experience with Wineskin or Cider.

When you say the mods "aren't appearing" do you mean they don't appear to the Skyrim launcher, or that the Skyrim launcher shows them and you're ticking the box to enable, and then the game just acts like the mod isn't loaded?
