Coalstone State

Coalstone State is a mod i am currently working on. Right now i am still adding buildings and soon i will be populating the town. So please note that nothing you see in THIS post is final. Coalstone's back story is this, This group of people are not supportive of the NCR. The people of Coalstone believe in starting fresh as far as government is concerned. Coalstones laws and rights are those listen when America was young. So they have separated themselves from the United States, to for the Free States of America, or FSA. The NCR and FSA are tolerant of each other, but really do not respect on another. Coalstone is the first FSA State in Nevada. (Later to be expanded on) Coalstone is still young and is a small city right now.

Coalstone was inspired by the open towns of Morrowind and the Dirty-ness of the cities from Fallout 3. I plan on expanding the city walls past the Power plant shown in the video, maybe even further. There are many quests i have planed for Coalstone. As of now those are locked away until i put up Version 1.0 for download. One of the reasons i am posting this video preview is for anyone who would have a suggestion as to what they would like to see. Some things may be added and some wont. Hopeful the input giving here can add more fun for those who download the mod for fun.

Now with that being said, i will like to say that i have not added interiors to any of the shacks so none of them have any doors. Also, the camp at the back will probably be Completely redone.

Now without further ad-due Coalstone State!

well, the video is quite nice

however, as it is the now, the place looks rather blend

that makes sense, as a small village should look like this, so don't take this as an offense

i do have a suggestion for the town

i noticed that this town is located really close to New Vegas

now, New Vegas is itself a secure area, but the surroundings of it aren't that secure, and so i would think that there should be a reason for the group to settle at that spot

maybe something like a casino or a vault or something, that would make them choose this specific spot (aside from the power plant, that is)

adding such an attraction to the center of the town will make it look more lively, and also explain about some of the funding of the place, as such a large place looks quite expansive to build (especially if they have their own power plant)

also, i would agree about expanding the walls past the power plant, and also setting up an armed patrol around it (such a thing is a huge prize in the world of Fallout, and should not be left unguarded)

as for the troops seen in the camp, them using the chinese stealth suits just doesn't seem right to me

set aside the chinese part (i'm sure that more than 200 years after the war, at least some of these found their way to Nevada)

these suits should be really really expansive, and as the village is right now, it doesn't look like a rich place at all

so basically, what i would advice you to do is the following:

decide if the place is going to be rich, poor or in the middle, and modify it to fit the theme

a rich place would require some form of earning money (like a casino), and a place for getting food and water (as these aren't that expansive as a single unit, but these are what you are using the most, and hence become quite expansive)

if the place isn't too rich, than i don't think the armors you chose would fit the theme

this is all i can think of for now

good luck with your mod, and i hope to see this up and running

New Vegas sure lacked some more settlements, and some more quests (especially good ones) are always welcome

The Chinese Stealth suits are not permanent. they are more or less there to point out "Hey those guys are Military" Most of the people will be wearing BoS Scribe robes. (To show the poorness of the people in Coalstone) Also in taken over the power plant, most of the farm land past it will be Coalstones to use. The reason the land was acquired was a purchase made by the FSA from the NCR. Coalstone cost FSA around 75,000 Caps, for the settlement and the power plant.

in this case, what kind of quests will you be making??

i'm not asking for details, just the main concept, as these can (and should) influence the place (for instance, if the place has a giant farm, it wouldn't make sense that you'll be asked to get food for the people)

i'm asking this because if you say that these are military guys, which means that security is quite good, it probably won't involve quests like killing the raiders in a nearby raid camp or something (at least it sounds like it wouldn't make too much sense)

I cannot wait for this, you look like you know what your doing,

Im going to make some custom mesh's for the town tonight, just rough drafts of stuff. You dont have to use it, but I just feel inspired by the rustynes of the town.

Its looking great so far man.

Backstory wise - I can understand it and all, But how long has the town been settled there? Do you want to make it an after even of NV storyline ( I prefer those set after the end of the game). for instance, we all know new vegas like the back of our hand, so seeing this camp would make me go, it was not there before.....

I know you`l say, `there no way I could put it in before, or change the fact you know it has been added,' but, for roleplaying sake, and for the sake of some quests, why ont make a simple main quest story.

For instance;

1- player finds Coal - stopped at gate they are asked their reason for entering, the player gets directed towards the path of, what is this place.

2- player is allowed in coalstone - a usually secretive place, for some unknown reason, maybe Coal`s residents have heard about the player.

3- player is told that recently the town or followers of FSA came here after loosing a battle with another faction.

They lost many many followers and so have settled in new vegas to spread the word.

However, they have run into trouble with the local residents of the strip - The people of Coal have been using the nearby power transformer to power life support machines and have been draining electricity from the strip.

4. - The player`s main quest would be to either;

-get enough medical supplys to ensure the followers can survive without machines ( good)

- Power down the power transformer ( neutral)

- kill the followers on life support and claim they died naturaly ( bad)

doing so would have course open up the town and make it intresting,

Be asured, thats a very rough draft of a quest id like to see myself, but is just a rough idea.

Anyways I shall download tihs tommorow and see what I get inspired to make :)

Allan.

Love the ideas Allen. In fact i was thinking something along the same lines. Ive moved some buildings around and got all the buildings i think ill need set up. And now that thats done, ill be placing some Stating lighting around for an idea of how the town should be light. Some of the things i am hoping to get done is Signs for the major buildings, such as the General Store, Hospital, Weapon smiths... ect.

The one thing i am looking for the most right now is a special armor for Coalstones Military. Something that says We are a poor town. Another thing I'm looking for is some retextures of BoS Scribe robes. I know there are three colors (Green,Tan, and Red) But id like to see more colors, because this is what the Coalstone Towns folk will be wearing. If you feel like making some textures Allen, or anyone else.

heres a list of things id like to see if others can make. None of theres are really required for the mod but id like to see someone make them, and help me out a little ;) Building a city from the ground up takes more then a day youknow!

Request List

Custom signs for Coalstone

Coalstone State overhead Sign

Military Armor and BoS scribe robes (more colors)

Coalstone Flag

Statue of George Washington

retextured Ceaser's Legion tents (Or Custom made Building for the Military)

None of these need to be made but i would love to see someone help out with those things, if you choose to help thanks!

Sure i can put them on some of the NPC's to give the town variety. If theres one thing i cant stand in a game... Its consistency... lol.
