CapinGreen
So I'm new to oblivion mods and I'm trying to install FCOM, but Wyre Bash is giving me a bit of trouble.I downloaded Wyre Python, installed it, then downloaded and installed Wyre Bash from Wyre BashWhen I go to the Wyre Bash - Oblivion in the start menu PythonWin opens up (supposed to happen?). I try clicking the run button but the application crashes...I have looked through the forums and googled it and can't find what to do (I also don't appear to have a readme), any help would be greatly appreciated! Hemingwey
I believe you should be using 'Wrye Bash Launcher" to start Wrye Bash. You can find it in ....\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Mopy. Send a short cut for it to your desk top (if there is not already one there) and start Wrye Bash using the short cut. I am using version 290 of Wrye Bash, as opposed to 291 (the newest version), but I don't think this has changed. Hope this helps. Hemingwey
Bleh...I am going to take a bit of a shot in the dark...as it has been a very, very long time since I had problems installing Wrye Bash... What operating system are you using? If you are using Windows 7 or Vista and have Oblivion and Wrye Bash installed to the default installation directory, changing your installation directory for Oblivion (and Wrye Bash) to something like C:\Games\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion may help...beyond that idea there are probably other modders or mod users with more expertise than I on this topic that may be able to help...or try the Wrye Bash thread on Bethesda's Official Oblivion Mods forum. CapinGreen
I'm running Windows 7. I guess I'll try that out and I'll check out the Wyre Bash thread too (didn't know about that, thanks!).
AlKira
I'm running Windows 7. I guess I'll try that out and I'll check out the Wyre Bash thread too (didn't know about that, thanks!).Hello,Some advices to run Wrye Bash in a proper way:- Run all used utilities as administrator (as you have Win7 installed);- Change of install directory (as Hemingwey told you) to something like "C:\Games\Oblivion" may be useful;- Wrye Bash needs Python to work properly on Win7 (http://www.wxpython.org/download.php#binaries) available on this site http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/?page=wrye_bash (everything is well explained);- When installing Wrye Bash begin with the 275 (self installer) version and update with each later version one-by-one (from 285 or 287 till 290), feel free to override and test before each update. It works fine on my operating system.Try that and it should be all right.Bye.

[....] 1) Yes, reinstall Oblivion and all modding utilities outside of Program Files to avoid all UAC interference. Many headaches and wasted hours of troubleshooting will be saved. 2) Yes, Wrye Bash requires Python, but you should only use the Wrye Python O3a package from the Wrye Bash page here on TESNexus. It includes all necessary components and the proper versions to run correctly. Avoid downloading Python from anywhere else unless you are 100% sure what you're doing and are already familiar with Python and Wrye Bash. So basically, always use Wrye Python 03a. It's the surefire way to guarantee you have all necessary Python libraries and components. Don't get me wrong, TESIV:POSItive is an excellent resource site and I recommend it to everyone. It covers basically everything related to Oblivion and modding it. 3) No, avoid that process, it's no longer necessary. Wrye Bash v291 has been released as a complete EXE installer. There is no need to jump through hoops and do unnecessary updates to get to the current stable version. It only allows room for error when you do unnecessary steps, avoid them. In short, download Wrye Python 03a and Wrye Bash v291 Self-Installer from TESNexus. Install Wrye Python 03a first, since it's a requirement, and then run the Wrye Bash v291 Installer and you're done. Two simple EXEs, and you've got Wrye Bash up and running in a matter of minutes. Plus the new installer removes unneeded leftover files from previous versions, if you had any installed that is. Make sure you read the included Wrye Bash ReadMe.html included in the Archive you download. It's in the Mopy Folder. It's a lengthy ReadMe but is very informative and you should take the time to read over it, just as you should with all ReadMe files. I also strongly suggest you check out the Wrye Bash Pictorial Guide for Newbies. It's an excellent introduction to the basic functions of Wrye Bash and answers many common questions folks have. It also now includes some more advanced information once you familiarize yourself with the basics. Also, go ahead and take the time to learn BAIN, BAsh INstaller, as you'll greatly benefit in the long run by using a BAIN installation. It has so many advantages over any other method it's ridiculous. You can completely uninstall and reinstall a fully modded Oblivion, I'm talking heavily modded, in a very short period of time, such as an hour or two. Yes, it's that effective. BAIN Mod Installation Projects by Psymon is an excellent thread detailing the most basic to the most advanced methods of packaging and installing mods via BAIN. Check it out. Good luck. AlKira
Hello again, To Smooth613: So a newer version of Wrye Bash has been released (291). I'm going to install it, thanks for the news. But I believe that the Wrye Python 03a Package contains Python 2.6.4 or 2.6.5 version that could be replaced by 2.6.6 version (which it works well for me) but of course it keeps up to CapinGreen to install this version and I'm not ordering him to follow my own process. PS: Is WB291 an approved stable version? (i'll look at it on the site but thanks anyways  ) Bye.

AlKira
Hello, Thanks for the news. The newer version of WB (291) works well  . It adds new feature I'm not used to ( import settings??) but anyways it makes no difference as I forgive it and keep running WB as I did before. Bye.
