the d3d9.dll is in the game file as well as the most recent stable version of fose and i downloaded games for windows live for the xlive.dll file. After a while i did download the unofficial fallout 3 patch to see if that help but has done nothing and added the text lines [bUseThreadedAI=1 iNumHWThreads=2] to the fallout.ini. i hope there is enough information if not just tell me what other info you need

if the order of what you have posted is the same order of install then ENB things will be the cause of the crash and xlive is now active once again, so that's two ways to look at how messed up the software is.

when you install some programs, the items do in fact work along side others ,if there is a compatibility problem...now there is more/

still not enough info to help, but was enough to gauge the situation.

  1. I have no idea what operating system your using
  2. I have no idea the mother board or coprocessor or video card you have.
  3. I have no idea where the a game is installed at or version of it? patched or not.
  4. I have no idea what mod's so far you have installed there and how? or what tools were used.
  5. we need top know such things up front or we appear ignorant as it should be..as we have no idea whats going on there.

so, what are we to do with no info? this is why no one answers questions like this....there is nothing to be afraid of, the world is one Giant melting pot as far as modding is concerned...to me. all are equal here. post what we need to know.

ok, why are you running fose? you have no fose made mods yet?

there are two xlive disabler programs, one is stand alone, one is built into Fomm which by chance has a difernt (d3d9.dll) which controls only the desktop windows display driver.

Give me the model number of that laptop<<<< I need to see the chips set specs online for it because it uses the INTEL processor..regardless of the vid chip, there is a buss inter phase used in notebooks sonorously known not to allow this game to even render Due to lintels uses of hardware parts.

what you have is is over kill for nothing before the horse even leaves the barn ?

if you install Fallout 3 on the laptop from a fresh install ..it should auto detect your cards specs if it is within the games allowed versions it will run.

2nd. windows 8.1 is touchy at best, you are not the only person having difficulties with that OS and this game, people like me spend an immense amount of time researching the quirks for others finding solutions just for these events.

we call this our hobby, our contribution to the community, our MODDING practices.

The research furthers answers to questions others will use.....this is a given.

it's not harsh, nor is it placing you into any uncomfortable position...it is just inflammation we need to ask because we DO know why some things fail to work.

is the game retail? is the game Steam These two sources dictate to use exactly what type OS software you have installed onto that notebook.

Notice I said NOTEBOOK ? it/s not a PC, is an over glorified tablet, a docking station..the games are built for very powerful machines, the targets market place is not "notebooks" Though most now produce said items for use with games, this does not disqualify the statements made here....in 2007 there were NO game producers planning on NOTE book games.

it's that important to start out with as much info as possible.

  • ASUS laptop has it's own versions for display drivers and direc-x controls for that book.
  • Windows 8.1 < updates has the repaired drivers from MS for it, know fixes for the hardware.
  • Nvidia geforce 840M < has it's own ideas as to what should be installed and is NOT the same.
  • Back to windows...we have now two fold different things that take place...32bit drivers and 64bit drivers.
  • This game needs to run on 32bit drivers...it will not run on 64bit drivers so windows downloads and updates the required software it scans when updating...at least it used to before removing xbox support for games.
  • steam covers all of this thru steams networks so you and that game are totally relying on that overlay...which you are disabling before giving it a chance.

two possible solutions come to mind.

games setup and in order of installed fixes for the Notebooks needs.

the correct chipset drivers installed before installing the DX9c drivers which 8.1 will not allow...it's a downgrade..and it is 32bit...which does not run in 64bit Environments...but will run within steam.

this is how we know so much.

on the desktop, set the things so your "my computer" icon is showing...right click it and check system devices, scan for drivers not yet installed.

if there are any yellowed items, then the software is incomplete.

If there are zero yellow icons or yield signs, run windows updates and pick custom services, you verify and un choose the auto install but make note of what it finds from it's scan of your PC/ laptops needs.

IF it finds any driver updates...you need to install them before ever installing any old 32bit games.

hard ware drivers also fall under order and sequential events....you always update keyboard drivers ,mice, Modems and displays in that order.

Video driver packages are vast, very large downloads from MS, because it contains all the inter-phase stuff YOU need for what your using it for.

it does not always turn out for the best...and this is because not all systems built were built right. this is a result from feed back to them.

Some times it makes this worse..but 8.1 is a crap shoot for most. You roll the dice in making these decisions.

pick wisely, study the notices when it posts it's results...if it does find things, this is why I am posting the wall of text.

Thousands of post are directly like this, most end up doing exactly this.

Retails disc's install all original 32bit code and software that is Obsoleted By MS and that OS will NOT install obsoleted software from them.

Steam handles all of this.

with a steam version GOTY edition, that game should run from the get go on any platform..if it does not ,then the support software's are not installed yet.

retails second CD/DVD contains securom. a DRM control set that overwrites the first disc installed software's and will lock you out if installed onto a 64bit machine.

Them you come here and see us to fix it.

the games launcher is the most important part of this games ability to run on what ever system you might have ,it's version and size and source.

the order of installing the games root is so very important too if you intend to use the geck at any time...brings forth more problems your not going to expect running on "windows 8.1".

8.1, IF you installed all of it, steam and this game to an (x86) folder? then no, you will never run that game there or be able to edit it.

C:\games or D:\games

OR E:\Steam\steamapps\common\Kathandra\fallout3.exe <---as an example.

yes, you can custom install fallout 3 ,you can rename a lot of things too.

Steam...there is also a backwards compat patch here on the nexus to accommodate mistakes so you can patch backwards...funny thing is , it's labeled steam and it is the very first version of fallout3, it's not 1.7 but will allow steamers to install the geck and then allow you to update it and the game using thew download version from Bethesda web site.

after doing all of this, you end up with the correct data for that Operating system and then need only 1 single file to remove the DRM nag garbage "anti cheat" mechanizium .

save this post. I am
