Dicecaster
Originally, there were three characters: Mario (the hero), Princess Peach (the damsel in distress), and Donkey Kong (the antagonist). Even such major characters as Bowser and Luigi didn't exist. Now, as far as I know, the only other time that they've fought was in Mario vs. Donkey Kong, for the Game Boy. So, my question is: as arch-enemies, why don't they fight anymore?
Jiggalopuff
I am going to assume that you know the history behind Mario and Nintendo, if you don't, there is always Wikipedia and Google. Donkey Kong IMHO is one of the most important games in video game history, next to Final Fantasy VII. It had a complex storyline(and possibly the first involving a love triangle), a recognizably female character, A gorilla, and a hammer. Not only that, but they were the first video game company sued for copyright infringement(Donkey Kong looked too much like King Kong) My guess is that either Pauline(or was it Daisy that was kidnapped? I forget) didn't put out for Mario when she was rescued, or that she like the big, affectionate ape more than the short, stinky Italian plumber. Mario, heartbroken, went back to Community College and learned to be a plumber(he was orginally a carpenter), and somehow ended up in Mushroom Land. Unlike her cousins, Princess Toadstool(or Peach, depending on the game and translation), always gave it up for Mario whenever she was rescued, and oftentimes enjoyed the attention of Mario and Bowser fighting over her. Hence, Mario has always had more reason to pick fights with Bowser than Donkey Kong.
