Kryxis Posted February 10, 2011 Share Posted February 10, 2011 Hey modders, Please excuse me and point me to the existing mod if this idea has already been materialised Most of us might agree that the vanilla companion system is rather limited. My biggest issue with it is that there is no way to have absolute control over a companion's position. The player feels like a mother hen leading her chicks in a single straight line rather than a squad leader. I would very much like a mod that allows the player to direct companions' movements and positions to a point indicated by the player's crosshair. To that end, I came up with this idea: A context-sensitive 'point and execute' system similar to the Rainbow 6 series, especially the (coincidentally) Vegas sequels. Using the Q and E buttons (perhaps also Z and C, for compatibility with multi-follower mods), the player can order a follower to a target spot and the follower will find the path of least resistance to that point, taking in account for enemies, obstacles, etc. A 'general order' key (X for instance) will order ALL followers to the target. Upon arrival, the follower will then proceed to interact with the target object, person or landscape: opening doors, taking cover along walls or obstacles, interact with other NPCs. If the target point is an enemy, the follower will concentrate fire (taking cover first, if equipped with ranged weapon) on that target until it's neutralised. Holding down each of the four keys will call the follower bound to that key to regroup to his position in a preset formation or simply near to the player. Similarly, holding down the 'General Order' key orders ALL teammates back to the player. On top of that, perhaps a team formation feature could be included so the player has control over followers' default proximity and position (when the 'form on me' order is given) I think this system, if it can be made to work will skyrocket the companions' role in supporting the player. It will allow the player to plan tactical assaults, breach and clearing buildings, organise defense and so on.
