mod translation

Hi,

I'm an Italian gamer of Dragon Age and I want to translate a mod which is in dazip format, but I don't have the source code. Actually the mod changes many dialogs with different main characters (Leliana, Morrigan, etc), adding new sentences that are taken from other moments of the game, so somewhere these sentences are already translated. Is it possible to translate that mod? Or to find that sencences into the game files?

Hiyas Hicarus, welcome to the DA forums! :)

 

Ok, before I say anything else, as a member of the staff, I DO have to say this. That if you're translating the mod for personal use, IE- Only for yourself, that is all well and good with no problems. However, if you are translating the mod for distribution... IE- to give to somebody else, or to post the translation on this site, or on another site... you Have to have the Original Author's permission to do so before giving the mod away. ANd that no mods can be distributed on this site, for an exchange of money. So somebody can't pay you to do this for them. Or you can't charge people to download it.

I do have to tell you that, because that's the site rules.

I'm not trying to assume anything, or judge, or anything like that, its just my job to let people know these things ;)

 

Alright, that said. Please keep in mind that I dont have much experience with mods that use dialogs or cutscenes. So I'm not sure if the distribution files can be edited or not, the way that they can be with items.

But. make a copy of the .dazip file that you downloaded. On the copy you made, RIGHT click on the file, and choose Rename. And then rename the .dazip extension at the end of the name to .zip

Windows will give you a message asking if you're sure you want to do that, click yes.

 

After changing it to a zip file, you will want to extract the contents to a new folder.

 

The contents of the new folder, can then be opened up by dragging and dropping (DnD) the files into the toolset. If they are in a .erf file, when you open the file in the toolset, you'll see a list of the files that are contained inside the .erf

If you get a list like that, RIGHT CLICK on one of the files and choose either open resource or extract resource

Open resource will need an option for which program to open it with. Choose the toolset.

Extract resource will have the toolset extract the file to a specified location on your computer, and you will still need to open it in the toolset.

 

Now, like I said, I havent worked with dialogs or cutscenes. I do know that the cutscenes themselves can't be edited. I dont know about dialog files. I'm not 100% sure, but I think the file extension for dialog files is .dlg

 

I know that this isnt the best answer that you could get. And I'm sorry for that. But hopefully it will get you pointed in right direction, or somebody that knows more about these particular types of files will post.
